It is learned that Adobe recently released the latest inflation data for the U.S. online retail market. According to the Adobe Digital Price Index (DPI), prices in the U.S. online retail market rose 2.9% year-on-year in April 2022, lower than the record high of 3.6% year-on-year in March, and fell 0.5% month-on-month. The Adobe Digital Price Index analyzed 1 trillion retail website visits and more than 100 million SKUs in 18 categories. The data showed that prices rose in eight of the 18 categories in April, including electronics, office supplies, jewelry, books, furniture and bedding, toys, home and garden, flowers and related gifts, computers and clothing, with clothing seeing the largest increase. Prices fell in five categories, including electronics, jewelry, books, toys and computers. Important categories in Adobe Digital Price Index in April Clothing : Prices increased by 12.3% year-on-year, down 0.7% month-on-month, and increased for the 11th consecutive month. Prices in this category began to loosen, with monthly growth of more than 15.7% from November 2021 to March 2022, all higher than the 12.3% year-on-year growth in April. Grocery : Prices increased by 10.3% year-on-year and 1.3% month-on-month, reaching a record high. Prices in this category have risen for the 16th consecutive month. In January this year, the year-on-year growth was 5.8%, in February it was 7.6%, and in March it was 9.0%. Pet supplies : Prices increased by 8.0% year-on-year and 0.9% month-on-month. The highest annual value of this category was in September 2020, with a year-on-year increase of 7.8%. Electronic products : Prices fell 5.2% year-on-year and 0.9% month-on-month. The lowest annual decline in this category was in October 2020, with a year-on-year decline of 6.2%. As the category with the largest spending share, the decline in this category will have a great impact on prices in the online retail market. Computers : Prices fell 5.7% year-over-year and 1.7% month-over-month, marking the 16th consecutive month of decline. From 2015 to 2019, prices in this category fell 9.2%. It is learned that in April, American consumers spent a total of $77.8 billion online, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%, but the increase was not large, not a double-digit growth, and far lower than the year-on-year growth of 12.2% (US$71 billion) in January and 15.5% (US$67 billion) in February. It can be seen that with the increase in inflation rate and cost of living, consumer spending has been reduced, which has led to a slowdown in online sales.
