This post does not have any valuable information or experience to share. I just want to talk about some of the things I have experienced during this period. If you are willing to read it, just treat it as a story.

At the end of April, my colleague Z from my previous company (let's call it D Company here) approached me and L to invest in a startup. We didn't have the money to invest, so we agreed to do Amazon operations management, and Z would be responsible for logistics and procurement. The company reserved shares for us until January of next year. The company opened on June 1. The major shareholder is the owner of the factory that supplies D Company, and the minority shareholder is Z's wife. The shareholding reservation was not written into the contract. The two-day weekend that we had agreed on at the beginning became a weekday and a half-weekday, and the lunch break was reduced to only one hour from 12:00 to 13:00. However, we expressed our understanding, after all, starting a business is not easy, and we also believe in Z.

Although we were colleagues before, we had almost no contact (because we were not in the same department and he was mainly in the Shanghai headquarters). In 2017, the boss of D Company funded him to open a research and development department next to our Guangzhou office. We had a little contact (Z eventually lost money in the research and development department, and I only learned about this news recently). Usually, old colleagues of D Company always praised Z, so L and I had a very good impression of him. I believe in his ability to develop products and trust this person. He found us to start a business together, which also shows his trust in me and L. Although we did not invest in him and are relatively introverted and don’t talk much, we are still very grateful to Z in our hearts and want to do a good job of performance. It takes an hour and a half to go to work one way every day. It’s a lie to say that I’m not tired. After get off work, I go home to eat and it’s time to go to bed. After a nap, it’s the next day. There is no time to think about other things except weekends. Everything is always difficult at the beginning, but I didn’t expect that things would go against our wishes. What happened in the past two months also overturned our understanding of Z.

On June 3, a new colleague named Y joined the company. She works for eBay. Like us, Y did not buy any shares. Y joined Company D in 2019. L and I resigned from Company D in 2018, so we did not know her before. It is said that she did not stay in Company D for long, and later went to Shenzhen and changed several companies. But after getting to know her, we did not like her. She was usually disrespectful, liked to interrupt us, and asked us for information in an imperative tone. She tried to sow discord between us, etc. Y positioned herself as the boss's wife in the company.

  1. While Ms. Y was flirting with the nephew of the major shareholder, she was also showing affection to Mr. Z, a minor shareholder. Mr. Z was married and had children. His wife was pretty nice and paid for the decoration of their new house. The name of the company's minor shareholder was also his wife's name, so I boldly guessed that the hundreds of thousands of yuan of investment was paid by his wife. The major shareholder had long asked Mr. Z to come to Guangzhou earlier this year to work together, but Mr. Z never quit his job at Company D. In the end, it was his wife who urged him to come, after all, his salary had not increased in Company D for several years (Mr. Z also complained to us about this many times, feeling frustrated).

  2. Z came here and hooked up with Y a few days after the company opened. Here are a few small examples: Y asked Z how heavy a tray was, and Z replied that it was not as heavy as hers. Y knew that Z’s WeChat friends did not have a note. Y asked Z to go shopping at IKEA, etc. Y brought her own lunch every day. There was a period of time when she went downstairs to eat with Z without eating a few bites or even heating up the food at noon. Z also packed her food. There are other more detailed things, so I won’t go into them all here. Z’s wife called him on video to check on him, and Z was in the office at the time so he passed smoothly.

  3. The major shareholder invited us to dinner. Ms. Y said at the dinner table that L and I were taking the boss's salary and not considering the long-term development of the company. In fact, we only raised objections to her plan to open 100 accounts and distribute non-profitable products to develop overseas warehouses. After all, the company has just opened this year and we think we should take one step at a time. However, she also said that the two platforms are different. We have never worked on eBay, so we still need to make profitable products on Amazon. So Y came to the above conclusion: We are taking the boss's salary and not considering the long-term development of the company. Mr. Z nodded again and again. Now I think I regret not fighting back on the spot.

  4. The truth comes out after drinking. At the table, Mr. Z talked about how he had stolen and instigated his subordinates to steal samples from suppliers while working at Company D.

  5. Ms. Y likes to meddle in our Amazon affairs. Every time Mr. Z asks us something, she answers at the speed of a quiz and makes many mistakes. If what she says is right, we will gladly accept it. We like to share and communicate experiences wherever we work. We have never had any communication problems with others when we worked in other places before.

  6. Y and Z suggested that a certain product on the Japanese site was easy to sell, but Z didn't listen to our ideas and started looking for suppliers. After nearly two weeks of searching, we almost decided on one. Because I didn't want to waste time and distract my attention, I had to collect some data from the Japanese site to tell him that we couldn't make that product. Z was still a little persistent and asked me to see the products he found. In the end, the results of the market research were of course not ideal, so he gave up. From then on, Z often discussed Amazon matters with Y, and had nothing to do with me and L, and he no longer had a say.

  7. The company wanted to recruit an operations assistant. L and I didn't receive any notice until one day someone came for an interview and Y was in charge of the recruitment. Each interview lasted more than two hours, even during the lunch break. I couldn't figure it out. Finally, Y told Z to keep two fresh graduates for us. L and I don't want assistants at the moment. After all, the goods haven't arrived at the Amazon warehouse yet, there is no sales, and the overall framework of the company has not been built. We should at least have the right to choose when recruiting. Everyone has their own standards for hiring. I have never heard of someone from eBay being responsible for Amazon's human resources recruitment. I argued with Z about this and he criticized me for not being proactive.

  8. After Ms. Y and Mr. Z agreed on the company's basic salary and commission system, they didn't discuss it with us and just told us the result. At that time, we knew that the shares and other things would have nothing to do with us in the future. We also had no right to know and participate in other matters of the company, big or small. Or Mr. Z didn't want us to participate, because at the beginning we took the initiative to ask for contact information to communicate by ourselves, but he refused to give it to us. But Ms. Y let her do everything on her own. In short, Mr. Z's attitude towards the two platforms of eBay and Amazon is completely different. L and I each registered an Amazon account. I registered it with a local connection and passed it directly without the second review. Mr. Z insisted on registering L's account with Zi Niao, even though we emphasized several times that it would trigger the second review. So L entered a long and endless cycle of submitting materials for the second review. Moreover, the review materials provided by Mr. Z to us were not in accordance with the requirements. No matter what we said, he would not listen. After half a month, one set of materials still did not meet the requirements. In addition, L had an account manager who had provided a link to a key customer account, and was only waiting for the product certification, which was only two days away. Z suddenly got anxious and urged L to register first. We said that key customer accounts would be supported, but Z said that there was no support without sales. The same thing happened to Y, but it was different. Z actively provided Y with various information and contact information. When he heard that she had found a regional key account manager, he said that was great and that the account would be supported in the future. I really laughed.

  9. Ms. Y tried to close an account for two months but failed, so the account manager ignored her. Mr. Z bought two accounts for her, but they broke down a few days after they were bought. He bought two more in the past few days. She started looking for a freight forwarder and overseas warehouses when she joined the company, but she is still unsure which one to go with. During this period, the freight forwarder raised her price without telling her why. In short, she is very busy every day, typing on the keyboard so loudly that my computer is shaking (Ms. Y sits opposite me). She can type on her knees, look up at the keyboard, sigh and type at the same time...

  10. Usually when we get off work, Mr. Z is not in the office. Ms. Y works overtime every day, and she locks the door, but she doesn't have the key to open it the next morning. There are only two keys in the company. One is with us, and the other is with them. Because we open the door every morning, Ms. Y always locks the door with the keyhole facing the door handle. One time, the keyhole was directly against the door handle, with only a gap in the middle to insert the key. We threw the key to her, and she kept opening it for more than 20 minutes. This is what she brought upon herself. When asked if she locked the door, she said, "Yeah." From then on, she locked the door normally.

  11. At the end of last month, before the new employees started working, Ms. Y asked her family to send a few old computers from her hometown to the company for the new employees to use. Two of them were intended to be used to register new Amazon accounts. It took a whole morning to install the computers, and the system had to be reinstalled. After the new employees came, they all complained about the slow Internet speed and computer jams (the Internet speed was already very slow when there were only four people, and the computer was not smooth. Mr. Z insisted that it was the computer and network cable that cost thousands of yuan). The new artist spent the whole morning repairing the host on his first day of work. It seems that they are saving money on hardware for the company, but they don’t consider efficiency.

  12. Image outsourcing + a new artist. The new artist was not interviewed for the position of artist. Ms. Y saw that he had some experience in photo editing, so she asked him to edit pictures for two hours during the interview, and then told Mr. Z that he was hired. However, the pictures he produced after he started working did not meet our requirements. Apart from other things, there was a color difference between the previous and next pictures of the same set of pictures. The picture progress could not keep up, and the quality could not be guaranteed. Outsourcing is not cheap. We really wanted to hire a reliable artist directly, but we did not say it until the day we left. Because we knew that we were not trusted.

  13. There have been many such incidents. Our relationship with Ms. Y has become extremely cold. A few days ago, the major shareholder and Mr. Z talked to us, and we expressed our thoughts. But Mr. Z and the major shareholder thought that it was all my and L's fault, that we were not active in doing things and did not actively grab the work. They also made it clear that Ms. Y was just ignorant (she was actually older than us), disrespectful, and outspoken. People like me and L who don't talk much need to be guarded against. Let us be more generous to Ms. Y. At the same time, they all agreed that L and I did not communicate well at work and did not report the work situation to them, which led to them not knowing whether we had work or what stage the work was at. The fact is that Mr. Z is in the office every day, and we gave feedback as soon as we had any questions, but Mr. Z may be forgetful and can ask the same question several times, once every two days, and every time he asked, it was as if we had never told him. And it is really unnecessary to check things like opening a case. The goods have only been in the warehouse for two days, and they came to ask if the orders have been issued after a few stocks were put on the shelves.

 
We asked for resignation the next day. Z was still in Tai Chi mode, but we were firm in our attitude. People with different ideals cannot work together.
 
Two more interesting things:
In addition to Z, Y must have other male friends with whom she has an unusual relationship. Once, she called a man in the office to get his phone number to receive a verification code for account verification. The man said, "You called me suddenly and I thought I did something wrong again." Because her phone was loud, we could hear it clearly. What's interesting is that after the man said that, she took her phone and went out to answer it. And she never answered the phone in front of Z.

When our relationship with Y first started to deteriorate, Y was trying to sow discord between me and L. One day after lunch break, Z hadn't returned to the office yet, and Y told me that she wanted to continue taking a nap, and asked me to call her if Z came back. I was very puzzled at the time, because given their relationship, they shouldn't have to worry about this. Then L told me not to call Y, and was a little angry that I responded to Y (because L had already reached the stage of hating Y, and I had a good relationship with L, and she was afraid that I would suffer). As a result, Z came into the office a few minutes later, and I knocked on Y's desk as a reminder. She looked up at Z, and then continued to sleep on the desk without taking it seriously. Since then, I haven't paid much attention to Y. She really has a lot of little thoughts.

I have already resigned, but Mr. Z contacted me on WeChat to ask about changing the brand. He asked me directly without any name or greeting. To be honest, I hesitated for a while whether to reply, but I thought that even if I replied, he would not believe it and would definitely ask someone else. Moreover, I had already asked him about this issue on the day I resigned, and I was afraid that if I replied this time, he would ask me countless times. So I decided not to reply.
 
Finally, I would like to say that these are not big things, but they really affect my mood at work every day. It is best to find people you trust when starting a business. Otherwise, it will only waste time and energy for both parties.

This morning, I checked the backend orders and found that a listing that usually didn’t perform well had multiple pending orders in a short period of time. . . .
At first glance, you might be happy to have received so many orders, but if you take a closer look, you will find that the intervals between these orders are only a few minutes.
The fear of being dominated by such malicious orders last year immediately came up. Last year, it seemed to be around this time. A slow-selling listing on the Japanese site received more than a dozen orders in a short period of time without any promotions or activities. When it first appeared, I didn’t know it was a malicious order. Although I was curious, I thought I would just see if the slow-selling items could be sold. After a few days, this situation reappeared on this listing. It was also very late at night. Many orders were placed in a short period of time with very short intervals. After about a week or two, there were no problems with these orders, and my confusion was eliminated.
 
As a result, one month later, all these orders were refunded. Some were not sellable, but most were. However, the terrible thing happened. The ranking of that listing dropped significantly. It was originally ranked around 100,000 in the major categories. After all these orders were refunded, it ranked several million. . . . The listing can be said to be completely ruined, and the subsequent listing was not made. In December last year, this situation occurred again. They were all orders at night. As soon as I got to work during the day, I hurried to find customer service to cancel them, but some had already been refunded and could not be cancelled. Sure enough, there was no accident. All of them were refunded again a month later. Today, this weird order appeared again, and I had to be shocked. I quickly opened a case and asked customer service to cancel these orders for me, but unfortunately, the customer service replied that these orders had entered the delivery process and could not be cancelled. Last year, I heard that some people were testing some black technology on the Japanese site, but I didn’t expect it to appear again this year. In addition, last year, the investment manager asked me to report these malicious orders, but as you can imagine, reporting these malicious orders is useless because those spoofers will create tens of millions of buyer accounts. . . .
 
At present, it seems that this kind of malicious order is only placed on the Japanese site, and the time is mostly between 11pm and 13pm, and there are also orders during the day, and the order interval is very short. Many people have long said that the Japanese site is very chaotic and there are many messes, but I have always believed that if those people just use black technology on their own listings, it is understandable, but it is really a conscienceless thing to spoof others like this. Maybe they don't have a heart
. So all sellers, especially sellers on the Japanese site, really need to pay attention. Once you find such an unreasonable order, ask the customer service to cancel it quickly. It must be timely, because once the payment is completed, the Amazon warehouse will start to deliver it soon. During the day, even if the payment is completed for more than ten minutes, the order cannot be canceled. The Japanese site is already very difficult to do business because of tariff issues, and this kind of malicious order will only make things worse for sellers, so seller friends should be more careful.
