The recalled products are still on sale, and this platform has been warned by the US CPSC

It was learned that on April 13, according to foreign media reports, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently discovered that the Rock'nPlay baby recliner products of the well-known toy brand Fisher-Price, which were recalled on a large scale four years ago, are still being sold in large quantities on Facebook Marketplace.

It is reported that this product has caused the death and injury of about 100 babies. Therefore, the US CPSC issued a warning to Meta and asked it to quickly remove these products from its Marketplace platform.

The U.S. CPSC first recalled 4.7 million Fisher-Price Rock'n Play products in April 2019, saying the product caused the deaths of at least 30 infants. However, since then, the CPSC has received more than 70 reports of infant deaths caused by the product.

The main reason is that the product is still sold in large quantities on the second-hand market after the recall. CPSC Chairman Hoehn-Saric said that in the 13 months starting in February 2022, the committee found nearly 4,000 Rock'nPlay products on second-hand websites, mainly on Facebook Marketplace.

Facebook has been criticized for years for not doing enough to stop the sale of dangerous products, and U.S. lawmakers have repeatedly written to the platform asking it to take action.

In July 2021, a 5-month-old girl hit her head on a laminate floor after falling from a recalled Bumbo infant seat purchased on Facebook Marketplace, according to a report filed with federal safety regulators. At least 112 children have been reported injured from using the seats, including 20 with skull fractures.

CPSC spokeswoman Pamela Springs said the agency has sent nearly 60,000 requests to online marketplaces to remove recalled products in the past 13 months, with more than 75% of those requests going to Facebook.

Due to these factors, Facebook Marketplace may be subject to stricter regulation.
