Shooting at Amazon FBA warehouse again! All casualties are warehouse employees

At the end of June this year, a shooting occurred at Amazon's FBA operations center in Florida. The deceased was queuing at the operations center waiting for an interview for a warehouse staff position.

The murderer was still at large at the time, and Amazon urgently evacuated the entire warehouse, causing the FBA operation center to not operate normally for two consecutive days.

Originally, this kind of emergency was relatively rare in the Amazon FBA operation center. Before this year, it might have occurred once every few years. Unexpectedly, just three months later, a shooting occurred again in the Amazon warehouse, and it was the same warehouse as the one in June!

On Tuesday evening, local time in the United States, a shooting occurred at the Amazon Logistics Center (JAX3) in Jacksonville, Florida, which has left a woman seriously injured and a man seriously injured and sent to the hospital for emergency treatment . Both victims were employees of the Amazon facility.

According to the police's preliminary investigation, the two victims were found by other warehouse employees at 7:30 p.m., and the female victim died on the spot. Warehouse employees said that they were on shift at dinner time, and witnesses heard clear gunshots in the restaurant, and then many workers rushed to the scene and discovered the shooting.

After the police arrived at the scene, they immediately moved the employees to the parking lot outside to await investigation (but they were not allowed to leave). The police have not yet identified the suspect in the shooting, which means that the suspect may still be lurking among these employees.

With two consecutive shooting incidents occurring in the same warehouse, it is clear that Amazon has very serious problems with its security management.

Many American netizens are questioning why security was not strengthened after the last shooting. Some JAX3 employees also came forward to say that there are metal detectors and other security measures at the warehouse entrance , but they are not enough to protect employees from various violent incidents.

In this case, the JAX3 warehouse may not stop operating for just one or two days. At present, public opinion is still fermenting, and Amazon has not come forward to explain. This is far from the speed of response to the last incident. It is estimated that Amazon is also very troubled by this matter and does not know how to respond. If this matter becomes a big deal, JAX3 may be shut down for half a month.

Now is the time when Amazon is working hard to restore warehouse capacity and prepare for Primeday. This shooting is bound to have an impact on the overall processing capacity of Amazon warehouses.

In addition to making contingency plans for unexpected situations with Amazon’s delivery capabilities, we sellers must also be wary of new policies that Amazon will implement after Member Day.

New policies implemented after Primeday

After announcing the Primeday date, Amazon immediately came up with a new policy requiring sellers to provide accurate package weight and size values after October 28.

When sellers fill in the dimensions when shipping and uploading products, they usually write an approximate value and try to write it as small as possible, so as to reduce the Amazon storage fee charged by the package size. It is often the case that the seller is overcharged for storage fees when the package size is measured when entering the warehouse , and the seller asks Amazon to refund the money.

By directly requiring sellers to provide accurate packaging sizes, we can reduce disputes between sellers and customers due to packaging sizes and provide buyers with an accurate shopping experience.

However, whether the size of the goods will change due to squeezing during transportation, and if so, whether they can’t be put into the warehouse, these are the difficulties for sellers under the new policy. Fortunately, Amazon has not yet stated what penalties will be imposed for different sizes. It should be tested in these categories first, so sellers in these categories should pay more attention to the recent Member Day replenishment and try to comply with the new regulations that will take effect on October 28.

This Membership Day is of vital importance to sellers, whether it is improving rankings and preparing for stock before Membership Day, or maintaining rankings and replenishing stocks after Membership Day in preparation for Black Friday, all are critical.
