Big news! Three shipping companies were sanctioned, and a US shipping company was sued in court

September is the peak season for Pacific shipping routes, with container throughput at many ports hitting a record high for the month. Against this backdrop, container shipping prices on US routes have soared to an eight-year high, doubling from the beginning of this year.

Recently, the skyrocketing shipping prices have received special attention, and relevant government regulatory agencies have begun to take action!

In addition, three EU shipping companies were sanctioned by the EU for crossing the "red line". Measures include freezing assets, cutting off markets, and prohibiting business operations.

Federal Maritime Commission issues warning after investigating skyrocketing freight rates

Freight rates between Asia and the east and west coasts of the United States have reached record highs in recent months.

Previously, the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has conducted multi-dimensional monitoring of the major alliances, including the proportion of suspended shipping capacity and suspension schedule, the minutes of relevant ship deployment meetings of the major alliances , and even required that the suspension plan must be reported 15 days in advance, and warned that if necessary, an injunction will be issued for the suspension!

On September 16, after a closed meeting, commissioners of the Federal Maritime Commission issued a warning to container shipping companies, saying they would file a lawsuit in federal court if there was evidence of collusion in the trans-Pacific trade.

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said it is investigating possible violations of competition laws.

my country's Ministry of Transport talks with shipping companies about recent adjustments to domestic freight rates

Last month, in response to the large fluctuations in freight rates on routes such as China-US, the Water Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Transport sent letters to six shipping companies providing: a table of relevant information on the China-US and China-Europe routes, an analysis of the reasons for the recent fluctuations in freight rates on the China-US and China-Europe routes, and the next steps.

Following the letter of inquiry, the Ministry of Transport recently summoned all container shipping companies operating routes between China and the United States.

According to shipping companies, the Ministry of Transport will strengthen supervision on China-US routes, requiring the standardization of freight rate filing. Capacity, routes and schedules must be filed. The freight rates specified by shipping companies and all additional charges must be standardized and reasonable, and must be filed with detailed explanations.

At present, some shipping companies have begun to heed the warnings of the FMC and the Ministry of Transport of China and have adjusted the GRI and trans-Pacific freight rates.

Industry sources pointed out that there may be no further growth before the end of the month, and shipping companies are expected to lower rates after the National Day holiday. However, how long the current high rates will last depends on the ability of shipping companies to absorb the sluggish demand before and after China's Golden Week.

The EU imposes sanctions on these three shipping companies!

September 21 , EU announces sanctions against three shipping companies , and accused them of violating the UN arms embargo on Libya .

The three shipping companies included in the sanctions list are: : Turkish Shipping Company Avrasya Shipping , Kazakhstan air cargo company Sigma Airlines and Jordanian shipping company Med Wave Shipping .
