Shockingly Invisible Negative Reviews?! A large number of sellers were attacked by malicious negative reviews

Around the peak season, the circle of Amazon sellers becomes very unstable, as there are always some people with bad intentions who want to cause trouble.

Some time before Prime Day in the middle of this year, there was a big incident of copy-selling and order cut-off for super low prices of $1 or $2. At that time, many sellers in different categories were affected. Some sellers even had their sales on Prime Day affected by this wave (click here to review).

It is October now, and the peak season for the US site is just around the corner. Next month, Amazon sellers will usher in the biggest promotional festival of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. At this time, these malicious people are about to collectively show up.

Recently, many people have reported in the group that they have been maliciously given bad reviews. Almost all of them are obviously malicious bad reviews, and some even have the same likes (if you want to join the seller discussion group, scan the QR code at the end of the article to find me to join the group)

It is common for Amazon sellers to receive negative reviews. Nowadays, few negative reviews are shameful when bragging to other sellers. However, it is very abnormal for so many sellers to receive malicious negative reviews in a short period of time. There is no doubt that someone must be trying to take advantage of the opportunity to cause trouble.

This wave of negative reviews saw many different situations from previous ones. Many sellers reported that they could not find any negative reviews, and only the average score showed an extra negative review.

Could it be that the people who recently used a lot of negative reviews to stir up trouble have used some kind of black technology? Can you really give reviews to others at will?

Invisible Review

There are indeed cases where there are bad reviews but no reviews can be found. One of our students reported that his product had 2 3-star ratings in the average score area, but after clicking on the filter, there was only one 3-star rating. It also showed that there were 10 reviews, but only 9 reviews.

Is this mysterious three-star review really invisible? Apart from the platform's own bug, I have found two possibilities.

First, the review does not exist, but it has not been displayed yet. Its content is being reviewed by Amazon, and it will not be displayed on the front end if it has not passed.

This review process has actually always existed, but it usually takes longer on the Japanese site. A few months ago, one of our students found a one-star bad review but couldn't find the content. He contacted customer service and found out that it was under review. This process even took about 2 weeks to get a result.

This situation is not common now and can be considered as a simple review. We don’t need to worry about any black technology. However, if a large number of sellers encounter this situation and there are many "invisible" negative reviews, we should think in another more terrible direction - someone is taking advantage of the review invisible mechanism during the review period.

It is difficult for sellers to judge the authenticity of invisible reviews because they cannot find the content and buyer account information. In this way, there is no evidence to reflect to customer service that the negative review is malicious . Although such invisible negative reviews have no content, it is still very difficult to deal with in a short period of time to lower the average score.

Of course, the above situation is just my guess. It is too difficult to figure out Amazon's review standards and mechanisms and make use of them. Even my brother-in-law himself may not be able to do it.

The second one may not have existed a few months ago. Recently, Amazon has been experimenting with a new rating feature - Review can directly rate without leaving any content.

This feature called onetap allows consumers to submit their own reviews by simply clicking on the star rating, without having to write the title and content of the review as before.

This step greatly simplifies the process of leaving a review. I also guess that after the new function is launched, people may add a lot more ratings. However, according to our general understanding, this way of leaving a review should also have the account content displayed, just like Taobao's default positive reviews.

Just like the one above, it is no different from a normal review except that there is no content. You can like the comments and view the customer account.

But Amazon will definitely make some changes when learning this feature, because a review with no content but only ratings is really unnecessary to show (who would like a rating without content?).

Therefore, in addition to the review mentioned above, it is also possible that these review ratings were left through Onetap, which itself has no content and does not display the account.

Considering that Amazon wants to strengthen the attribute of average rating, and even updates the key display position to rating, it is possible that Onetap only keeps the rating but not the content.

To sum up

The two situations speculated above, one is during the review (it has been confirmed that the Review can be invisible), and the other is that Onetap can leave only the rating without leaving the content.

If it is the first case, it is not serious. The review will definitely end. Either it will be released and you will contact the customer to revise the review, or the review will be deleted if it fails the review (that would be very lucky).

The second possibility is not high, but it is very tricky , which means that there is almost no way to deal with the one-star rating, and it can only be diluted with more five-star ratings. Fortunately, the negative reviews that will not be displayed at all will have less impact on conversions.

Students who don't know what their situation is can find out if there are any reviews under review by asking customer service. Now is the eve of the big sale, and it is a critical period when undercurrents surge. At this point in time, you should prepare several orders with reviews to deal with malicious attacks in order to reduce losses .
