New policy! Amazon charges sellers for merging accounts

On August 4, Amazon US released a new announcement stating that it is now changing the way it charges professional sellers who list or merge accounts in multiple countries.

It will charge sellers in each country starting August 1, 2021, but total subscription costs will still be capped at the equivalent of $39.99 per month.

This does not include taxes and foreign transaction fees charged by the seller's bank or credit institution.

The announcement is as follows:

Starting August 1, 2021, we will change the way Professional selling plan subscription fees are billed if you have a consolidated account and active listings in multiple countries or regions.

We will update the "Selling on Amazon" fee schedule.

If you have merged global accounts, your subscription fee will be divided among these accounts and charged in the local currency of each Amazon store. You will be charged the subscription fee only if you have active listings in the current month.

Regardless of how many stores you have on Amazon, your total subscription cost will remain limited to the equivalent of $39.99 USD per month (excluding taxes, except in Mexico and Brazil, and excluding any foreign transaction fees charged by your bank or credit card issuer).

However, the $39.99 subscription fee may be charged in different ways.
Specifically:

All subscription fees will be billed on the same day each month, not on the monthly anniversary of registration in each country or region. To coincide with your billing date, we will extend your subscription once, if necessary, at no additional charge.

Subscription charges for your Americas region accounts (United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil) will be billed in each country where you have an active listing on your billing date, rather than just one country. Your total amount will not increase as a result.

If you sell in our European store, you will continue to be charged subscription fees in one European country.

The policy change could be costly for sellers.
