In 1893, cousins ​​Theophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn opened a 70-square-meter sewing supply store on Lafayette Street, not far from the Opera Garnier. A year later, they named the store "Galeries Lafayette".

Galeries Lafayette will open its second location in Vadistanbul, Istanbul in 2019 in partnership with the DEMSA Group.

China

Galeries Lafayette opened its first store in Beijing, China in the fall of 2013, with a total area of ​​more than 47,000 square meters spread over 6 floors. The store is operated as a 50% joint venture between the French company and Hong Kong fashion retailer IT.

Galeries Lafayette and its partner IT will open its second flagship store in Shanghai Pudong Shopping Center in 2019.
