Amazon is launching a new program called Climate Pledge Friendly to help customers more easily discover and purchase more sustainable products. As part of the Climate Pledge Friendly, Amazon has created a new certification, Compact by Design, to highlight products that are more sustainably designed.

While searching for products, buyers will see the "Climate Friendly Commitment" label, indicating that the product holds one or more of 19 different sustainability certifications to help protect the natural world. With excess air and water removed, products require less packaging and are shipped more efficiently. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight result in significant carbon savings.

Certification Type

There are 18 certification standards provided by third parties, including EnergyStar, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, etc. Some of these certifications are relatively well-known. About Compact by Design

Compact by Design only requires some improvements to the product packaging to apply for certification. Compared with certifications such as EnergyStar, this level of improvement is relatively simple.
