Photobucket can run ads during normal operating hours and provides 1GB of free storage (10GB for paid accounts) and 25GB of free bandwidth (unlimited for paid accounts) to free users. Photobucket also cooperates with Adobe to provide online editing tools that allow users to mix photos, videos, and music, and has signed a contract with independent music licensing company Pump Audio to provide music.

Big Events

In July 2017, Photobucket updated its policy, requiring users to pay an annual fee of US$399 to use the third-party website image storage service.

The site's administrator, Glen Stephens, told members: "It's extortion and there's no guarantee it will be back to normal within a month," and advised users not to pay the fee.

Development History

-Photobucket was founded in 2003 by Alex Welch and Darren Crystal and funded by Trinity Ventures. It was acquired by Fox Interactive Media in 2007.

- In December 2009, Fox's parent company News Corp. sold Photobucket to Seattle mobile imaging startup Ontela. Ontela was subsequently renamed Photobucket Inc. and continues to operate as Photobucket.

-In June 2010, Photobucket was included in Lead411's list of hottest Seattle companies.

-Twitter announced in June 2011 that Photobucket would become Twitter's default photo sharing platform

- On June 28, 2017, Photobucket changed its terms of use regarding free accounts and third-party hosting services (hosted on forums, eBay, etc.).

Development scale

According to Nielsen/Netratings, Photobucket was named the fastest growing website in 2005. Photobucket claims to have nearly 40 million registered users, 85,000 new users joining every day, and more than 2.8 billion images uploaded to its website. According to TechCrunch, there are 300,000 independent websites linking to Photobucket. On the Photobucket website, we can clearly see the following data: about 20 million unique visitors per month in the United States and more than 39 million unique visitors per month worldwide; the most popular photo website in the United States; the third most popular entertainment/multimedia website in the United States; the seventh most popular entertainment/multimedia website in the world; website traffic ranks 29th in the United States and 45th in the world; and the 18th most popular advertising website in the United States.

Tips for Success

"We're not trying to be a community, we're trying to make all the communities around us," Welch said. Once someone has their favorite photos or videos stored somewhere online, they will carefully curate and maintain them, and their online social life built around these images will become increasingly dependent on this storage location, which is what makes Alex Welch, CEO of Photobucket, excited. Apparently, Photobucket has also found a way to monetize its huge monthly traffic. Photobucket pushes about 2.5 billion images to the Internet every day, and users often come here to curate their images and videos, so advertisers will naturally take a fancy to this Feng Shui treasure land. When users upload photos, they will see various advertisements from companies such as eBay, eBags, AT&T and Disney.
