1580 Honest Communication I was asked to attend an interview on Friday. I want to give some feedback to the guy who interviewed me.
1. On your resume, the last job you posted was “Amazon Operations Manager”, but the position you are applying for is “Amazon Operations”. I asked you why you applied for an operations position, and you honestly said that you felt you were lacking in management. So the focus of my conversation was on your personal operations ability. But when I asked you "What data do you pay more attention to in advertising?" and "How do you usually analyze data?", your answers were very vague, including "I think Amazon's advertising data is already very comprehensive" and "I pay more attention to exposure and clicks." Such answers do not clearly reflect your personal operations ideas.
2. In your last job, you started from scratch and worked there for 2 years. In the second year, your annual sales were RMB 18 million. You didn't write the size of your team, but it's usually asked in interviews. You said that your team consists of 3 people, including you, so the average monthly sales per person is less than $70,000. With such performance, I personally think that if the job information is "team leader" or "supervisor", it would be more beneficial than a manager position.
3. I will focus on your personal performance data, including:
What is the average monthly sales volume of the main product you are responsible for? You answered that the monthly sales volume is 3,000, and the unit price is 35 US dollars. Based on this amount, the annual sales volume of this single product is about 9 million RMB, which is more than half of your company's annual sales volume. But you said earlier that you are responsible for more SKUs, and your personal sales volume accounts for less than 50% of the entire company.
What is your best product? What is the highest ranking? What is the monthly sales volume? You said the unit price is 35, the daily order volume is 300, it has never been in the top 50, and the highest ranking is 50th in a small category. I repeatedly confirmed with you whether it is 300 daily sales or 300 monthly sales. You smiled and said that it is daily sales. If the monthly sales volume is 300, you can't support yourself.
I brought my computer with me from the beginning to talk to you. I even asked about your product categories and operated the computer in front of you. Although you can't see my computer screen, you can guess that I can check the data on the spot. Your product has two related category nodes. No matter which node, the top 50 in the subcategory does not have a monthly sales volume of 9,000, and the top 1 in the subcategory does not have a monthly sales volume of 9,000. Even during the epidemic, the top 50 in the subcategory did not have this volume.
I was asking about sales volume, I don't know if you misunderstood it as "sales volume" and answered. I don't know if the company will ask you to re-interview, because I am not responsible for the company's recruitment and interview affairs. This time, the person in charge was out and notified me to come for the interview. Later, I heard that you had been waiting in the conference room for more than half an hour. I also think that the company's arrangement is very stupid. If the company invites you for a re-examination and you are interested in participating, I hope you will be more fully prepared. I also wish you better opportunities and a bright future.
Update: There is really no need to be so sensitive. Let me briefly explain a few issues:
1. I am also a part-time worker, so I cannot have any sense of superiority. I wrote this in the hope that my brother can do a review, and also to remind myself that when I look for a job in the future, there should be no loopholes in the data. I can simulate it before the interview to form a closed loop.
2. I am not responsible for interviews and recruitment, and I don't know the other party's contact information. I am interviewing on behalf of others, recording the situation, and reporting back to the leader. It is also convenient to take notes with a computer. And now there is a tacit understanding between me and the leader: he knows I want to leave, and I know he knows I want to leave, but we haven't broken this window paper yet. Based on this situation, I will not ask the leader for the interviewer's contact information, there is no need. I really posted this post casually, and it is also kind. I don't have a penny of superiority.
3. I spent about 40 minutes introducing the company's supply chain, team, and performance to the other party. If the other party wants to see the link, I will show it to him directly. But this guy didn't ask to see it. I interviewed two operations on behalf of me that day, and another girl asked to see it. I also showed her the store/brand/link in detail. This has nothing to do with whether I want to run away. When I was in charge of recruitment in other companies, if the applicant wanted to see it, I would also show him the link directly. There is no need to hide this information. And if the interviewee is interested in joining the company, it is also very reasonable to want to know the specific products and links that he will take over after joining the company.
4. When the other party understood the company's situation and was willing to continue communication, I asked about the categories and sales of the other party in the previous company, and I only asked about the categories, not the specific links. The sales volume was asked about the specific value, and the unit price was mentioned by the big brother himself. In fact, I didn't ask. I just wanted to simply ask about the sales volume and pass on this topic, but the big brother mentioned the unit price himself. I thought about it and found that it didn't match 1800W.
5. Operation and data analysis. The questions I asked were very general. I just wanted the guy to express himself and just say whatever he wanted. But the guy didn’t express his own ideas. If he said “click-through rate will directly affect the ad ranking and CPC bidding” like the guy downstairs called Tengyun or something, that would be OK. Although I don’t agree with this statement, I won’t delve into it because he has his own ideas. But the guy only said “I pay more attention to exposure and clicks” and then remained silent. It was difficult for me to understand more of the implication from his silence. Obviously, my level is not good enough.
In fact, there is no perfect question, nor a perfect answer. But I think it is very important to have meaningful words, clear ideas, and closed-loop data during the interview process. Let me reflect on myself.
The spectators downstairs are more bored than me. Let's all just work hard. Members' Day was a blast.
"Wonderful Reply"
Tengyun After reading the whole article, I think you should reflect on whether your own operational capabilities and ability to ask questions in the interview are up to standard. The operational questions asked are very general and abstract, like questions that only HR who doesn't understand operations would ask.
The first question was "What data do you pay more attention to in advertising?" The brother answered "I pay more attention to exposure and clicks." There is nothing wrong with this answer. Exposure, click, click-through rate, conversion rate, ACOS, input-output ratio, etc. are the data that advertising should pay attention to. Moreover, the brother directly answered the most important indicators of advertising data, which are exposure and clicks related to click-through rate, because click-through rate will directly affect the ad ranking and CPC bidding (I don't know if you understand the logical relationship between these three). The brother has made a point, but you questioned his answer. I doubt your advertising knowledge and level.
The second question is "How do you usually analyze data?" Such a general question makes me doubt whether you, as an interviewer, have the ability to ask questions? Aren't you asking the interviewee about a specific aspect of data analysis? For example, how to reduce the target CPC of the ACOS of a specific ad, how to optimize the ad and improve the ad conversion rate, or how to analyze and select the click-through rate and conversion rate of each keyword in the backend? The question you asked is so broad and vague, how can I give you a clear answer?
The third question is "I want to focus on your personal performance data." Sales, rankings, and sales are different every day and every month. Just answer with an average sales, ranking, and sales. But why do you keep asking for specific data? Do you remember what you ate last month or last week? Why waste time asking such meaningless and meaningless questions? Can't you ask some meaningful questions? Or is your own operational level not good enough to ask any valuable questions?
Finally, you said that you brought your computer to the interview, and even checked and calculated the data on the spot to verify the authenticity. Based on the level of the previous interview questions, I can guess two points: 1. Your company is accustomed to asking questions about experience during interviews and recording them; 2. You are in the distribution business. The Eagle That Can Dig Holes • Guangzhou • 2024-06-25 17:35 So the most annoying thing is going for interviews at an older age, and giving people the impression that they are doubting you (although I am also a small boss in a company now, but looking back on my previous interviews), I have interviewed countless companies of this type before, especially large companies. Many interviewers in large companies don’t actually have much ability and are just lucky to get this position (or they have connections). When interviewing you, they will question and deny you subjectively based on their so-called operational ideas. If you run around for interviews every day like this for a month, you will doubt yourself and deny your abilities.
I now think that the interviewer's resume is not a big deal. They just want to have a job, so it's okay if it's not too bad. You don't make a lot of money, and you have to accept that you are full of arrogance and look down on others. You answer all kinds of questions with a look like a criminal. The interviewer thinks you are very profound. If you don't agree with his opinions or ideas, he will judge your ability. I hope everyone can be more tolerant and don't think too highly of themselves. Don't think that you are superior to others just because you are a supervisor or manager. After all, you are just an employee, at best you are just a lucky employee. Don't make things difficult for each other.
Aar onMount • Shenzhen • 2024-06-25 17:35 @Tengyun : Many interviewers are like this (whether it is an on-site interview or a chat on the recruitment software). Without guessing his/her own business ability, judging from the questioning ability, they do not understand the importance of "precise expression" when both parties have not yet had any tacit understanding. Sometimes I will directly question her "What exactly do you want to know with this question? Your question is too general, I don't know which aspects to answer from", but she will say that she asked this question on purpose to know which aspect you think is more important (for example, "Have you ever made a hit product?" Your company's definition of "hot product" is sales volume, turnover, ranking, profit or something else? At what level is it considered a "hit"?).

Smart job seekers will first review their past store orders, average order value, sales, ad click-through rate, conversion rate indicators, and gross profit margin, so that they can be logically consistent during the interview. If many operational performances fail to take off, it is not entirely your own fault. Timing, luck, and company resources will all affect whether you can successfully launch a product. In the current market, companies with a certain scale are looking for an operator who has a monthly sales of at least 100,000 US dollars.
Some companies will set up a probation period, give you a new store, and not mention the resources they can provide. They ask you to start from scratch and achieve monthly sales of 40,000 US dollars in three months, and also require profitability. As a job seeker, you have to reverse-calculate various indicators based on the sales of 100,000, so that when you answer, you can roughly match them. If you write too low a past performance, you will not even receive an interview invitation. Located in Shenzhen.
As a company recruiting, when hiring an operator, you must first understand the actual situation of your company best, whether the store is a new store or an old store, how much money you plan to invest in the store when recruiting a person, and what kind of performance you hope to achieve. In this way, you can recruit people in the market and match them correctly.
In the market, you need to offer a base salary of 7K to 8K for ordinary graduates, 10K for those with a little experience, and 12K to 15K for those with strong abilities. It depends on what level of salary you can offer, how many stores you invest in, and what kind of performance you can achieve. In this way, the people you recruit can work for a long time (at least one year), and you won't recruit unmatched people who will leave after a short time, which will be a loss for both parties. For a strong operator, you need to have at least a daily advertising budget of 500-1000 US dollars. If the company is not large and hopes to develop in a snowball-like manner, then you can just recruit someone with good overall qualities, who is down-to-earth and hardworking, and has one year of experience. The cross-border road that never ends • Ningbo • 2024-06-27 09:40 To add, the salary for an ordinary fresh graduate with no experience is 4000 yuan for two months as an assistant and 5500 yuan for a full-time employee. The salary for an operations specialist is 7000 yuan. The salary will increase according to performance. After one year of experience, the salary will be 7-8 yuan, and after two years, the salary will be 8-9 yuan. It's about like this. The graduates you mentioned directly got 7-8 yuan. There were no such people when I graduated in 2021, and there are even fewer now because they just recruited a few graduates some time ago.
Changpeng Zhao CZ • Asia Pacific • 2024-06-27 10:25 @路不矢的跨跨路: Reasonable. The graduates of 2021 have been working for several months with a salary of 3500. They did not have a base salary of 5500 when they were transferred to a regular position. It has only increased gradually since then. For this product, from suppliers to art designers, evaluation and other resources, I provided all of them to the company, and I operated it independently. It can be said that the company gave nothing except money to buy goods. On the contrary, now that the store is established, they started to hide things, not telling me this and that. Rabbit makes small money Agree from: Username already exists. 、 zzzfanren 、 new new leeks 、 big brick 、 ccdzd1 Judging from the data in the article, the products he mentioned later that he was personally responsible for are probably exaggerated, which is normal in the workplace.
In order to get the expected salary and benefits, job seekers will usually add some water to their usual performance. In order to get more people to submit resumes and recruit more all-round elites, recruiting companies will also exaggerate the company's situation and the salary and benefits it provides. Many times, job seekers find out once they join the company that the benefits and conditions mentioned during the interview are not available or the level does not match the publicity. Both parties boast, and whether they can get what they want in the end depends on luck and whether they are sufficiently prepared for this "boasting".
You ask him what category of products he makes, and then check and find that it doesn't match the actual situation. In addition to the fact that he is exaggerating his own performance, it is also possible that he is not talking about the actual category of the former company's products. After all, generally speaking, one will not tell others about the products of the former company. This is something everyone in the workplace knows. "For such performance, I personally think that if the job title is "team leader" or "supervisor", it would be more beneficial than a manager position." Regarding this point, you also mentioned it at the beginning. The other party has answered frankly that he feels he lacks management skills, so his job search direction is now focused on "operations" rather than management positions. This is not a big problem. Some people can have good personal performance, but it is difficult for them to do management. Some people may have average performance, but their management, coordination and organizational skills are excellent.
Anonymous user Agree with: Judy863 , 1580 Honest Communication , The Empty City is Gone , I'm Probably Tired , Young People Should Not Work More » To be honest, if I am asked these questions in an interview, even if I don't analyze them clearly, they will be classified as vague and inconsistent. As a small operator in the company, these are the main concerns of the boss regarding the main products, monthly sales, and annual sales. Most data analysis issues only focus on the general situation. The profit situation and sales situation also have peak and off-peak seasons. As an operator, my daily work involves selecting products, making pictures, adjusting advertisements, and other trivial things. When you ask what the most important thing about advertising is, I will also answer click exposure and acos. It's nothing more specific to the type of advertisement and keywords. In fact, I am also afraid that I can't find a job, but my current achievements in this job and the fact that the boss also attaches great importance to it, I can't express it very clearly.
When I go to interviews, I won't reveal the situation of my previous company with questions like the best product, the highest ranking monthly sales, etc. I will just give you a rough idea. Instead, I will tell you: the monthly sales of my main product reached xww, and the annual sales reached xww. Which is the best product I have ever made, and how many are ranked in the top few. Will you be satisfied with this? Will you think I am exaggerating? So in this industry, if you say you are "low" in an interview, you will not be accepted, and if you say you are "high", you will be suspected. This brother must be quite knowledgeable. Traveling the world with poetry and wine • Shenzhen • 2024-06-25 09:10 In the past, when I went to interview developers, people would ask me questions like: What product did you work on before? How can I answer this... If I tell you, the information of my previous employer is exposed, and the products and stores are easy to find. If I don't tell you, you will say I am bragging. If I am too honest, you will look down on me. If I exaggerate, you will say the data is fake. It's all difficult. Performance is only a reference item, not the final evaluation of a person's ability. The underlying logic is the most important. For some operations or development, in the previous company, perhaps other links or departments did not cooperate well, which limited the development of ability, so they would consider changing jobs. If they did very well in the previous company and the cooperation was good, they would never think of changing jobs.
Tengyun • Shenzhen • 2024-06-25 15:39 If I were asked these questions, I would also give vague answers. Questions asked by a competent interviewer are based on the details of the operation methods. This interviewer would not ask broad questions that are not to the point and he also got stuck on some past data, which was very meaningless and unprofessional. It may be that the interviewer's own operation level is limited and he cannot ask valuable details about the operation methods. He can only ask some big and general questions. He brought a computer to the interview probably because he wanted to get the job applicant's overall operation ideas and methods. I strongly suspect that this interviewer is just doing product distribution.

But I couldn’t get good products. So if I answered a data vaguely, the other party would start to despise me. I even wanted to write about the performance of my former colleague. Anyway, they would ask, and they might not answer clearly. It’s just that I am a bit stubborn. I am what I am. I still hope to meet a mentor. The interview is still a relatively important link. The foundation of most people depends on the interview, getting a satisfactory basic salary and negotiating a good commission. As for the rest, if you are lucky enough to get into a good company and have a few good products for you, you will take off instantly. If you are unlucky, the company has poor resources and there are no products to make, you will have to rely on the basic salary you negotiated to get through for a while.

Do kilil • Shenzhen • 2024-06-25 18:39 Needless to say, in most cases, only companies with high base salaries have good products. Being willing to spend a high cost to recruit a strong operator can also show their confidence in their products and supply chain. Those who give you a very low base salary and say how much commission you will get if the product is successful are just empty promises. If the boss is confident, why would he be reluctant to give up the extra several thousand base salary? This is either because the company is not good or the boss has no vision.
