Amazon has mistakenly charged high fees! Officials have admitted and started refunding

Recently, Amazon sent an email to some sellers around the world, informing them that a bug in the backend had overcharged sellers in January. Amazon admitted the mistake in the email and promised that the affected sellers would get a corresponding refund for the overcharged fees!

Some sellers in our group have also received emails. Amazon did not explain in detail how this bug occurred, but according to the feedback from these sellers, they were basically charged commissions based on the original price before the discount, while the normal situation should be calculated based on the actual amount paid by the buyer (including shipping, packaging, etc.), that is, the discounted price. The difference between the two is quite large. If a high-priced product is discounted by 20% to 30%, the difference in commissions may be several dollars. In addition, the commission is deducted for each order, and the amount affected will be a very scary number!

The bug of sales commission has appeared on Amazon before. Around October last year, a bug occurred when calculating the commission in the backend, causing the commission of some products to be calculated based on the original price before the discount. It should be noted that some sellers on Amazon have been offering high discounts all year round. The original price is just a random high price, and the discounted price is the real selling price. They use the huge gap between the original price and the discounted price to increase conversion. This bug directly broke through the cost red line of these sellers, and the commission increased by more than 4 or 5 times.

According to the information we have collected so far, some sellers have encountered this problem, while other sellers have not found any overdeductions after self-inspection and are still calculating normally according to the discounted price.

Amazon may be the biggest winner of the epidemic

Generally, when there is a bug in the deduction of fees, Amazon is unlikely to take the initiative to admit its mistakes, let alone refund or compensate. Previously, when Amazon charged more money for advertising premiums, it took a large number of sellers to file complaints to the official and expose the matter to the media before Amazon reluctantly admitted its mistake and refunded the money.

The commission bug this time was caused by the same problem that occurred last year. Sellers have obviously become more cautious about shipping costs and commissions, and are no longer taking the official amount as it was before. After this problem occurred in January, the official also received many complaints and feedback. Amazon directly refunded the money without saying a word. This shows that it is quite useful for us sellers to work together and give more feedback to the higher authorities when encountering situations, and to strengthen the sellers' voice.
