Being targeted! Amazon and other platforms face charges of "selling counterfeit goods", and more than 400 sellers have been sued

According to foreign media reports, Amazon, eBay and Etsy are facing charges of "selling counterfeit goods" recently because unscrupulous sellers are selling counterfeit "Rebellious Hope" T-shirts on these three platforms.

Facing charges of "selling counterfeit goods"

This "Rebellious Hope" T-shirt was jointly launched by podcast host Dame Deborah James and fashion retailer In The Style. The official sales channel is the In The Style platform. It is priced at 15 pounds and comes in four colors: navy blue, white, pink and black.

It is understood that all profits from this product will be used for the UK Cancer Research Fund (Bowelbabe), so it is very popular in the UK market.

Because of the profitability, a large number of counterfeit goods have appeared on platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

  • On Etsy , a knockoff version of the "Rebellious Hope" T-shirt is selling for £42 ;

  • On Amazon , the same counterfeit products are selling for £15 each ;

  • On eBay , identical counterfeits are selling for £10 each .

At the same time, many consumers who buy goods from third-party sellers also believe that the money will go to charity.

In response, Adam Frisby, founder of the In The Style platform, posted a post on Instagram, warning consumers to be cautious when purchasing counterfeit products from other platforms because the profits from these counterfeit products will not be used for the UK Cancer Research Fund.

Sarah Coles, an expert at British financial services company Hargreaves Lansdown, said it was hard to imagine someone using the name of charity fundraising to make huge profits, and it was shocking that there were so many counterfeit T-shirts on Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

In response, The Sun contacted Amazon, eBay and Etsy and asked them to come up with a solution.

An eBay spokesperson said: "We have determined that some items on the platform violate eBay's policies and we have removed them. "

Amazon said: “We are currently removing all products associated with Dame Deborah James and related charities and apologize for any distress caused.”

Foreign e-commerce markets have always had a zero-tolerance attitude towards counterfeit goods. Once counterfeit goods are discovered, the goods will be removed from the shelves or deleted. In addition to counterfeit goods, infringement is also not tolerated by platforms such as Amazon, and toys are the hardest hit by infringement.

Snapperz initiated rights protection, 476 sellers sued

In Amazon's TOP100 toy rankings, you can see stress relief toys every few products. Although stress relief toys are popular, there are also many pitfalls. Previously, Snapperz, a stress relief toy, launched a rights protection lawsuit.

Snapperz is a hand-held squeeze toy with a suction cup that produces continuous popping sounds through squeezing, achieving a stress-relieving effect with each squeeze. Adults and children can play with it.

It is worth noting that Snapperz has been successfully registered on March 2, 202, and the registered category is 28. Moreover, the product has an invention patent: US11305206B1, which was published on April 19 this year.

It is understood that 476 sellers have been sued in this case, and it has been clearly stated that the keywords "Snapper/Snappers/Snapperz" must be deleted. Sellers who sell such products should conduct self-inspections and remove related infringing products as soon as possible.

Tool-type products are also very prone to infringement.

Viking Arm filed an infringement lawsuit and the seller's account funds were frozen

Viking arms are a hot-selling tool product, and sellers on Alibaba/Aliexpress, Amazon, Ebay, Shopify, Walmart, Wish and other platforms have put them on sale.

Since April this year, Viking Arm has teamed up with David Gulbransen Law Firm to file infringement lawsuits against sellers on various platforms. Just over a month later, before the storm of the previous lawsuit had completely passed, the law firm filed a second lawsuit in court, accusing the infringing sellers, and many sellers' account funds have been frozen by the platform.

Viking Arm is similar to the common jack in life. It is a multi-purpose installation tool with a load capacity of up to 150kg and a lifting range of 7-215mm. It can help people greatly save the labor cost and time cost of installation work, which is very helpful to improve the economic benefits of specific professional fields.

Moreover, compared with other tools, it is smaller in size and easier to operate. It can be said that the Viking arm is a professional tool suitable for everyone.

If there are sellers currently selling products with Viking Arm or with the two words separated, there is a risk of infringement. Sellers need to remove them from the shelves immediately to avoid facing huge compensation.

At the same time, it should be noted that the patent registered by the company is an invention patent. Even if the shape is different but the working principle is the same, it will still be an infringement.

With the arrival of July, the Prime Day sale is also entering the countdown. While infringement issues must be prevented, trademark infringement and patent infringement cannot be ignored either.

Therefore, all seller friends must check the products in their own stores to avoid adverse effects on the promotion due to infringement and other issues.
