It is learned that Shopify has launched a chat tool called Inbox, which allows Shopify sellers to communicate directly with buyers and send discounted product information. Shopify's new Inbox feature will bundle chat functionality with third-party apps on desktop and mobile. Inbox allows Shopify merchants to send shoppers product links, customized discount codes, and images, increasing the likelihood that shoppers will purchase on the Shopify platform. We're told Inbox will also work with Facebook Messenger and Apple Business Chat, and plans to add Instagram integration. It is reported that in Shopify's markets outside North America, consumers have already made a lot of purchases in messaging application ecosystems such as WeChat in China or Line in Southeast Asia. In addition, Toronto-based Snap commerce is also developing technology that allows brands to sell and promote through chat.
