Sales increased by 100%! This platform is amazing

Online marketplace Fruugo saw signs that online Christmas shopping was picking up faster than ever, as it doubled its sales in 2020 and grew more than 100% year-on-year. In its scooter category, there was a particular surge, including hoverboards, e-scooters and dirt bikes before Black Friday and Christmas, with sales up 1,237%.

Fruugo’s online marketplace focuses on cross-border trade, with 85% of its sales coming from international markets, and interest in scooters coming not only from the UK, but also from Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland. Cycling scooters, especially electric ones, are becoming increasingly popular around the world, not just in cities outside the UK for leisure and short-distance commuting.

By helping retailers translate marketing texts, convert currencies and comply with VAT rules, Fruugo ensures they can maximise scooter sales across dozens of markets, providing unprecedented opportunities for many merchants who, more than ever, rely on holiday sales to carry them over into the new year.

The online marketplace has seen steady growth in platform sales this year, with overall annual sales increasing by 220% in the early weeks of the first COVID-19 lockdown in April, and more than doubling in October. Sales are expected to continue to climb to record levels as non-essential stores in the UK and many other major markets have closed and consumers are more open to trading and buying gifts online.

“Holiday shopping this year is on track to be a record for online retail, and the surge in sales we’ve already seen for popular Christmas gifts such as scooters suggests that many consumers are starting to get their gifts earlier than usual and cash in on deals this year. With much of Europe under new lockdown restrictions, which in most cases include the closure of non-essential stores, this shift in sales from the high street to digital channels is truly an international phenomenon, which is also encouraging retailers to start trading more across borders.

We exist to help retailers of all sizes sell to a global audience by connecting them with 4 billion potential customers in more than 40 countries. At the start of the pandemic, we saw how critical this was for many merchants, with total sales more than doubling year-over-year, benefiting many sellers.

Our performance this year demonstrates that consumers are becoming more comfortable using the Marketplace for online shopping because it connects you to a wide variety of products that are hard to find in one place, which is a benefit for shoppers seeking more unique or unusual products.”

What is Fruugo ?

Fruugo is a leading British platform in Europe and the largest local e-commerce platform in the UK that supports global sales. It maintains an annual growth rate of 141%. Currently, it has more than 25 million active users in 32 countries. Sellers can sell to all countries after registering once. The website supports 22 currencies and 17 languages.

The platform, which has hundreds of retailers, operates on a no-sale, no-fee basis and provides translation, customer service, marketing and foreign exchange support to retailers so they only have to ship.

Fruugo is currently a relatively young platform compared to its European competitors, but is expected to grow by 200% in the next few years.

Currently, there are only a few Chinese sellers on the platform, which is the best time to share in the platform's bonus period. However, the entry requirements are not low, requiring more than 1,000 SKUs, which is not suitable for many small and medium-sized sellers.

Fruugo seller entry requirements:

1. UK VAT registration.

2. 1000+SKUs.

3. Priority will be given to shipments from overseas warehouses in the UK and Europe.
