Crack down on counterfeit products! The U.S. Congress has passed the Shopping Safety Act!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) recently called on the House of Representatives to approve the SHOP SAFE Act as soon as possible. This bill will severely crack down on the sale of counterfeit products by third-party sellers on major e-commerce platforms. Congress has passed the bill.

Christina Mitropoulos, AAFA's director of brand protection, said that counterfeit products are currently rampant in the online market, which seriously hinders the development of American business and poses a danger to the health and safety of consumers.

It is reported that AAFA has been taking effective measures to hinder the online sales of counterfeit products. In addition to supporting the Shopping Safe Act, AAFA also strongly supports the Inform Consumers Act, which requires online platforms such as Amazon to verify the identity of third-party sellers selling on the platform, increasing the transparency of online shopping. AAFA has also submitted recommendations on trademark infringement liability to the US Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition, AAFA also emphasized that counterfeit goods are currently expanding from third-party markets to mainstream social media platforms, and the government and other agencies should strengthen supervision to prevent counterfeit goods from flowing into more markets.

It is understood that in recent times, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency has also been strengthening its supervision of goods to prevent counterfeit products from entering the market. In order to avoid the goods being intercepted, major sellers should strive to register intellectual property rights (IPR) for their products to ensure that the goods can be exported to the United States smoothly.
