The "pet economy" remains hot despite the price increase! Where do American pet owners like to spend their money the most?

The cost of keeping pets for Americans continues to soar amid inflation, with annual inflation for pet food rising 3.7% in February, while pet services including veterinary care soared 5.8%, according to a report from online pet marketplace Rover.

The report analyzed data from more than 1,000 American dog owners and found that more than 70% of pet parents spend more on food, food, toys and veterinary visits, and 73% are worried that prices will continue to rise. But despite this, American "poop shovelers" are still willing to spend money on their pets.

Nutritious pet food with fresh ingredients is what most pet owners are willing to spend more on, the report shows. Personalized services such as dog walking and sitting are also a priority. Many are also willing to pay extra for "eco-friendly products" such as biodegradable poop bags, and some are willing to spend more on smart pet technology devices.

The findings may indicate that pets are becoming more of a part of Americans’ household budgets: The report shows that 35% of owners have spent more on pet supplies in the past 12 months, and 51% are willing to pay more for “ethically sourced” and “eco-friendly” products.

The American Pet Products Association said the proportion of U.S. households with pets continued to grow during the pandemic, reaching an estimated 70% in 2022, compared to 67% in 2021.

According to Rover's survey, dog owners in general spend the most per month, about $100 to $149. Mixed breeds, dachshunds and Chihuahuas are generally less expensive, with monthly costs under $100, while Labrador retrievers may cost between $50 and $99 per month.

Golden retrievers are at a higher level, with owners spending more than $100 to $150 per month. Breed has a greater impact on the cost of raising a dog, which may be related to the size of different breeds of pets, and product size is a huge factor affecting cost.
