It is learned that USPS announced an order for 50,000 delivery vehicles, of which 10,019 are more environmentally friendly and safer electric vehicles (BEVs), with an order amount of US$2.98 billion. The 50,000 vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning, improved ergonomics, and enhanced safety technologies - including 360-degree cameras, advanced braking and traction control, airbags, and front and rear collision avoidance systems, including visual and audible warnings and automatic braking. The new vehicles will allow the USPS to increase cargo capacity to maximize efficiency and better accommodate larger mail and package volumes. The 50,000 vehicles are expected to begin appearing on various routes by the end of 2023. USPS has currently identified 10,019 specific delivery routes for the application of electric vehicles. “We are pleased to move forward with this much-needed investment in our fleet,” said USPS Postmaster General and CEO Louis DeJoy. “Some of the 190,000 delivery vehicles currently on the road are more than 30 years old and lack basic safety features that come standard on most vehicles today. In addition, the addition of new vehicles will allow the USPS to increase its delivery volume.” Editor ✎Estella/ Disclaimer: This article is copyrighted and may not be reproduced without permission. |
