Unilever recalls dry shampoo due to carcinogenic ingredients!

Unilever has recalled certain aerosol dry shampoos under the Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI and TRESemmé brands due to the presence of benzene, a chemical that may cause cancer.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recalled products were produced before October 2021 and sold at multiple retailers in the United States.

The recalled dry shampoos include Dove Dry Shampoo Volume and Fullness, Dove Dry Shampoo Fresh Coconut, Nexxus Dry Shampoo Refreshing Mist and Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Refresh and Revive.

At the international level, benzene has been identified as a human carcinogen, and exposure to benzene through skin inhalation or oral administration can easily cause cancer. The FDA also reported in the recall notice that benzene may also cause cancers such as leukemia.

Unilever did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It is learned that, coincidentally, Procter & Gamble recalled more than 30 spray hair care products in 2021. These include dry shampoo and dry conditioner, which may also contain benzene. Similar recalls also occurred in the recall of Old Spice and Secret brand deodorants and sprays.
