US sellers, please pay attention! eBay and Etsy both lower USPS rates

It is learned that on December 9, eBay and Etsy simultaneously announced a reduction in the rates of certain USPS Priority Mail packages, which took effect on the same day, but the extent of the fee adjustments differed between them.

eBay announced that sellers using eBay Labels can now save more on Priority Mail packages weighing up to 5 pounds in zones 1-4, and Etsy is offering savings on Priority Mail packages weighing up to 10 pounds in zones 1-6.

Etsy said sellers can save an average of 5% on existing rates, but eBay did not say how much sellers can save, saying only that they can use its shipping calculator to calculate the new rates.

The U.S. Postal Service will increase rates on competitive services such as Priority Mail and First Class Package Service, as well as market-leading services such as First Class Mail, on January 22, 2023.

“In addition to offering great shipping discounts from all major carriers, eBay Labels lets sellers purchase, edit, and print shipping labels individually or in bulk,” eBay wrote in its announcement. “By automatically uploading and always including tracking information, eBay Labels makes it easy to ship items you sell on eBay.”

Sellers compared the rates for buying labels on eBay with the rates for using third-party shipping services. One seller said the current savings on shipping costs will be short-lived given that the U.S. Postal Service will increase rates on competing and market-leading services like Priority Mail in January.

In addition, shipments to the UK using USPS may experience delays due to a major strike by 115,000 UK postal workers that is unlikely to be resolved before Christmas.
