According to a new report from Bankrate.com, 77% of U.S. adults experienced product shopping problems in October. The most common shopping problems included higher-than-usual prices (55%), items being out of stock/out of stock (47%), and shipping delays (35%). The most frequently problematic categories were food (66%), clothing (37%) and electronics (24%), followed by electrical appliances (16%), toys (15%), furniture (12%) and cars (12%). Additionally, given the constant warnings from experts about supply chain disruptions and shipping delays, 73% of holiday shoppers say they are changing or have already changed their shopping behaviors. The most common changes are shopping earlier (37%), increasing online shopping (26%), and buying more gift cards (20%). Other changes include shopping at national retailers (14%), buying more used/refurbished items (7%), and giving more experiential gifts (7%). 57% of shoppers said they will treat themselves this holiday season, with Millennials (63%), Gen Z (61%) and Baby Boomers (55%) more likely to buy gifts for themselves than Gen X (54%).
