However, less than two months after the new policy was launched, many sellers said that shoppers abused the loose return policy to harm their interests. One seller said that before the policy took effect, there were only three returns in 700 orders, but now there have been four returns in just one week. Another seller said that although the product pictures and titles were clearly marked during the transaction, Mercari still approved the buyer's return on the grounds that the accuracy of the product description was disputed. In response, Mercari issued a statement saying that after listening to the feedback from the seller community and careful consideration, it decided to restore the previous return policy, and no-reason returns will no longer apply, effective from 12 noon on May 22. After it goes into effect, Mercari gives buyers three days to return faulty items.
