Amazon is reported to use AI cameras to determine delivery drivers' salaries and employment qualifications!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, Amazon is using AI cameras to determine the pay rates of its delivery drivers and whether they can continue to be employed by the company.

Amazon has developed a scoring system for drivers using cameras on its delivery trucks to calculate potentially dangerous behaviors. The camera system, called Driveri, works with a safety app called Mentor, which analyzes safety risks, including speeding and braking tendencies, while the cameras analyze information about whether drivers run red lights, stop signs, or follow vehicles too closely.

Previously, when Amazon first launched the system in February, it faced opposition from many U.S. senators, who demanded that Amazon provide more transparency in its use of these cameras.

The report found that Amazon's contracted delivery companies provide financial incentives to drivers with high scores based on their weekly scorecards, and that a poor safety score could also determine whether a driver continues to be employed, the report said.

An Amazon spokesperson said that when they piloted the system, they saw significant improvements in safety, with traffic accidents reduced by 48% and distracted driving reduced by 45%, and that the system improved the safety of drivers and local communities.

But according to one Amazon delivery driver, the rollout of the system forced him to quit, calling it an invasion of privacy. In May, some Amazon drivers were even told to turn off their Mentor safety apps in order to meet rating targets, according to the company.
