According to Part 551 of Title 49 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations, foreign automobile or parts manufacturers or importers must designate a local agent before importing vehicles or parts. This agent is responsible for DOT certification applications and communications. This agent appointment will be valid for a long time unless the manufacturer replaces or cancels it.
