At the end of yesterday, based on Amazon’s past practice of doing a cleanup before major promotional holidays, I speculated that Amazon is likely to make a big move on reviews or products in the near future.

This time the cleanup came so quickly. Just one day after the Review Crash, a large number of sellers received emails from Amazon this morning, informing them that their stores had been frozen!

This topic quickly became popular in our seller discussion group. Many sellers were affected and had their stores frozen. The various service providers in the circle of friends also responded quickly, which shows that the impact of this store freeze is very wide. Almost all sellers who have had similar illegal operations are within the scope of the freeze.

Even the million-dollar cross-border seller Mpow was frozen in the purge last night.

Based on the information I have collected so far, I have analyzed that the main reason for this freeze is the illegal manipulation of Reviews, which can be divided into the following situations.

Merge zombie listings to get reviews

Amazon prohibits the abuse of variation relationships, and operations such as merging zombie listings are expressly prohibited.

Merging zombie listings to obtain reviews is a common practice for sellers. Whether or not they are checked before is entirely a matter of luck.

Merge products with non-variant relationships in the store yourself

This operation also falls under the category of abuse of variant review manipulation. Sellers often merge and split products in their own stores to concentrate bad/good reviews on certain products with poor/good sales. This is also an operation that is strictly cracked down by the official.

Whether it is zombies or self-merged products, the closure of stores due to abuse of variants has always happened. After all, it is a violation in itself, but this is the first time that a cleanup of such a large scale has occurred.

The following is another special case

Because UPC exemptions are misidentified as abusive variant relationships

Another type of seller is also affected, that is, sellers who already have brand registration but are still using UPC (or other codes) to upload products.

We all know that after the brand registration is passed, we can enjoy the coding exemption, and we can succeed even if we do not provide brand codes such as UPC when uploading products.

Some sellers still fill in UPC when uploading products even if they have done brand registration. However, this way of uploading will be recognized as a duplicate by the system (one is exempted from coding, and the other uses UPC).

Although it was not an intentional illegal operation, it was still captured by the system as a violation of the ASIN creation policy and was also affected by the major cleansing operation to crack down on variant operations.

This cleanup came so quickly that sellers had no time to keep a low profile. Amazon’s swift and severe crackdown, which did not give violators time to react, was really a wake-up call to all sellers who skirted the rules or even violated the rules.

Here are a few reminders for everyone. Now is the time when the platform is cracking down, so be sure to pay attention to the following operations.

1. Never merge zombie listings, as this may turn zombies into zombies

2. Do not merge non-variant listings in your store

3. Do not use UPC to list products after UPC exemption
