Amazon backend has a new feature that allows sellers to lock their warehouses for free!

Amazon sellers often encounter the situation where Amazon divides their shipments into several different warehouses when creating Amazon shipments. In this way, sellers need to bear more shipping costs when sending FBA shipments.

The warehouse locking service is a service provided by Amazon that allows sellers to lock all shipments in the entire replenishment plan into a certain warehouse.

As Prime Day approaches, Amazon launched another free warehouse lock service in May - Global Shipping Service (GSS)

Like the Dragon Boat Program, lock-up is only one of the ancillary functions of global delivery. In essence, it is still an official first-leg service. And it is upgraded from the original AGL (Amazon Global Logistics) service.

Neither Dragon Boat nor GSS has any price advantage over third-party freight forwarders, so the purpose of sellers choosing the official first-leg service is to lock in warehouses.

The most important thing after locking the warehouse is the significant reduction in the first-leg cost and warehousing time. If it is divided into two different warehouses in the West and East Coast of the United States, the first-leg cost and warehousing time may be more than twice that of locking the warehouse.

Although they are all first-leg services, the application threshold for the Dragon Boat Program is still too high, and the charges for scattered small batches of goods are also relatively high.

Global delivery is a function that allows replenishment directly in the seller center and accepts scattered shipments. Integrating booking and shipping operations directly from the AGL platform into the seller backend is also one of the biggest changes in GSS.

GSS currently has three advantages

The first is of course free storage lock, and all operations are completed directly in the background, which can trace the details of each step, without having to jump to other platforms to track logistics.

However, just like Dragon Boat, if you create a shipping plan but use third-party logistics, the lock will be canceled directly.

Secondly, because GSS deductions occur after the goods enter the warehouse and there is no need to freeze funds in advance, the payment period will be much longer than that of a third-party freight forwarder.

The third advantage of GSS being directly integrated into the backend is that the balance in the backend account can be used for USD settlement, reducing exchange losses. However, the prices of Amazon's own services are not low, and the exchange loss cost is only a small part of it.

As an upgraded version of Amazon's official first-leg service AGL, GSS provides affordable lock-up services to small and medium-sized sellers who cannot afford a whole container.

Especially at the beginning of this year, the Dragon Boat Project was exposed for corruption. Internal staff of the logistics team used shell accounts to book cargo spaces and sold the space to sellers separately, earning a difference of tens of thousands of RMB.

After that, Amazon also carried out a wave of cleaning and rectification of Dragon Boat accounts. Now the newly launched GSS also provides an option for sellers who have lock-up needs.

In fact, whether it is worth choosing depends entirely on your own cost considerations, because the only disadvantage of GSS is that it is expensive, so you can choose according to your actual needs.
