It is learned that according to foreign media reports, after being wildly criticized and boycotted by users, US retailer Target has removed a series of controversial LGBT-themed children's products from all its stores and websites. The retailer cited safety concerns for its employees and angry backlash at some stores as motivations for the move, which comes amid calls on social media to boycott Target's 2023 "Pride Collection," which includes LGBT-themed products for children and even babies. Target's "Pride Collection" offers more than 2,000 products, including clothing, books, music and home furnishings, including "gender fluid" mugs, "Queer All Year Round" calendars and books for children aged 2 to 8, such as "Goodbye Binary" and "I'm Not a Girl." "Since launching this year's range, we have encountered different threats that have impacted our team members' sense of security and well-being at work," the company said in a statement. "Given these fluid circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing some of the most sensitive products that have received the most customer complaints." Target spokeswoman Kayla Castaneda said the company has celebrated Pride Month on a large scale for a decade, but this year's collection has intensified conflicts between customers and employees, with some customers even throwing LGBT products on the ground. The only specific products Target has removed from its shelves are those associated with the LGBT brand Abprallen, which has faced scrutiny for its association with British designer Erik Carnell, who has faced backlash on social media for his merchandise featuring pentagrams, horned skulls and other satanic imagery. The spokesperson also said the company is currently reviewing some transgender swimwear and children's products, but has not yet made a decision on those products. It’s worth noting that Target isn’t the only retailer caught up in the LGBTQ-related culture wars. The announcement comes shortly after Bud Light beer sales plummeted following a social media campaign with transgender icon Dylan Mulvaney. The brand has seen sales fall for six consecutive weeks since the controversy. Editor ✎ Nicole/ Disclaimer: This article is copyrighted and may not be reproduced without permission. |
