400,000 lost overnight! Be careful, a large number of phishing emails are coming

For cross-border e-commerce sellers, besides copycat sales, the most annoying thing is phishing emails. As the holiday season approaches, the number of phishing emails continues to increase, and sellers can easily fall into the trap if they are not careful.

Seller lost 400,000 RMB after being hit by phishing email

Recently, some sellers reported that they received an official email from Amazon:

The following is part of the email content:

We have suspended your Amazon account and all pending orders. The billing information you provided does not match the information on file with your card issuer.

To resolve this issue, verify now and register your billing name, address, and phone number with your payment card. If you have recently moved, you may need to update this information with your card issuer.

If the verification process cannot be completed within 3 days, all pending orders will be cancelled. You will not be able to access your account until this process is complete.

We ask that you do not open new accounts as any new orders you place may be delayed.

It is reported that some sellers have fallen victim to the phishing document and lost RMB 400,000 overnight . Some sellers’ accounts have been stolen and more than 10,000 copies of their products have been put on the shelves … They worked hard from dawn to dusk, but they did not expect that an email would make many sellers “return to the time before liberation”.

How do scammers use phishing emails to commit scams?

In fact, this is not the first time that Amazon sellers have been deceived by phishing files. A few days ago, some people in the community and forums also reported that they received emails from Amazon. The email account is [email protected]. The sellers speculated that it was sent by amazon.co.uk and believed that it should be an official email.

The email said that if the seller did not complete their information through the link within 14 days, their account would be closed. However, after consulting the online customer service, I was told that this was not an official email, and that they had received many complaints recently and were currently investigating the incident.

In fact, the scammers’ method of operation is very simple. They usually use the store to break the seller’s psychological defenses to achieve the purpose of fraud. This time, the seller received an email indicating that there was a problem with his account information and that it needed to be updated, otherwise the account would be closed. Seeing this, many sellers would unconsciously click on the link, so that the scammers could “reap the benefits”.

Although this email is very similar to an official email, it is basically confirmed that it is a phishing attempt. It is said that this situation is not only happening on the European site, but also on other sites. And many sellers have been tricked and their accounts and passwords have been stolen. Sellers should not take it lightly. It is best to be careful before receiving such emails asking you to click on a link and fill in information.

What should I do if I receive a phishing email?

Now the Amazon market is in chaos, and it is inevitable that some sellers will receive phishing emails. If a seller is accidentally phished, Pepe recommends:

(1) Do not click on the link or fill in your information. Contact customer service to inquire about the email and account details to see if your account has really been checked.

(2) Report your complaint to Amazon promptly.

If a seller accidentally clicks the link and submits relevant information, it is recommended that:

(1) Immediately file a complaint with Amazon and contact the Amazon team at the relevant site to handle the issue;

(2) Prepare all the evidence to prove that the account is yours, just in case;

(3) Check whether the account company registration information, payment account, listing, order, etc. have been modified;

(4) Check whether there are any abnormalities in the background emails and whether any fraudulent information has been sent to the buyer.

If the seller has not received the relevant email yet, Pepe reminds everyone to pay attention. If you receive such an email, you should first consult Amazon customer service and it is best not to click on the link .

Phishing emails on Amazon come in various forms, but no matter how they change, they all remain essentially the same.
