It is learned that according to foreign media reports, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has recently notified the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) that the implementation plan for non-standard fees and dimensional non-compliance fees will be postponed from January 9, 2022 to April 3, 2022.
This fee covers the following:
Missing or Incorrect Dimensions : If the shipper does not provide dimensions or the dimensions are incorrect, USPS will charge an additional fee of $1.50 for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and Parcel Select services for packages that are larger than 1 cubic foot or longer than 22 inches.
New non-standard fees : Package length over 22 inches – $4.00 Package length over 30 inches – $15.00 Packaging over 2 cubic feet – $15.00
It is reported that these fees include the 2022 rate adjustment plan proposed by USPS to China in November. USPS said that the implementation of the fee was postponed to give partners more time to adjust to these changes.
Under Chinese rules, the USPS must provide at least 30 days’ notice of any changes to its proposal. All other USPS postage rate adjustments under review by China remain unchanged, but with the proposed effective date for the new rates being January 9, 2022, the USPS has little time to make any changes to its rate adjustment proposal to China.
By postponing the implementation of the new rates to April, it is expected that China will have more time to complete its review of its 2022 price adjustments.
