What is TS? TS Assessment

What is TS? TS Assessment
TS stands for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, which was founded in 1881. It is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to encouraging honest businesses and helping to maintain the economy, environment, consumer health and social welfare. It is affiliated with CITY COUNCIL (local government agency). Just like our Consumer Rights Committee, it supervises and assists all domestic consumer behaviors. The full name is The Chartered Trading Standards Institute, which is affiliated with CITY COUNCIL and was established in 1881. The website is https://www.tradingstandards.uk/ and is referred to as CTSI.

background

A few years ago, when the European economy was in recession and Chinese cross-border e-commerce was just beginning to enter Europe, the British government discovered that goods from China on eBay were 2/3 cheaper than local British goods! Then that Christmas, a local British family bought a certain lighting fixture on eBay and it caused a fire. After investigation, it was found that these Made-in-China goods were shipped from local British warehouses, so the British TS turned its attention to these warehouses for inspection. In other words, the main function of TS in these matters is to initiate inspections and supervision of warehouses and containers, maintain local market trade standards, and there is no overlap with customs.

TS inspection content

1. External label: This includes: country of manufacture, product instructions, product details (electrical voltage and current, etc.), EU CE certification label (both inner and outer packaging), English version of the instruction manual, and whether it is suitable for use by children.

2. Electric plug/power supply: Fuse (the British standard is 2.2g, which cannot be less, because the fuse is the main standard for carrying current, and 2.2g is the general household current carrying standard in the UK);

3. BS marking wires: The insulation rubber of the power wires must meet 0.5mm2/0.75mm2 to avoid electric shock to users.

TS inspection requirements documents

1. The most important thing in TS inspection is the product verification report provided by a third-party testing agency (such as TUV). The report will conduct a comprehensive test on the product to ensure that the product is not dangerous. However, this will incur a certain fee, such as TUV fees of about 260 pounds).

2. Another thing we can provide is DOC – document of conformity factory certificate.

3. TS requires that all products entering the UK must comply with a wide range of health and safety requirements (such as product structure and stability); carry detailed product usage descriptions; special products (such as electronic products) need to be type-tested by an authorized agency; carry the CE mark and other information. Some special products (such as machines with saw teeth) will also need to provide rapid information to an authorized inspection agency to prove full compliance with the standards when they are in compliance with relevant standards.

Cargo Seizure

If the container is seized, the entire container will be detained in the TS warehouse. Because TS does not have a mature inspection mechanism at present, and lacks experienced inspectors, their inspections are more casual. Sometimes it takes two days, sometimes two weeks, so it will be very expensive! (Because the inspection is detained in their own warehouse, the storage of the goods is calculated in the warehouse rent)

If the goods are qualified after inspection, of course there is no problem. However, if the products are found to be unqualified by TS, it will be ok as long as the relevant qualification certificates can be provided. If there is no certificate and the qualification certificates cannot be provided, either 9% of them will be sent to the local inspection, 90% of them will be destroyed locally, or 1% will be returned to China.

Target

A fair and secure trading environment in the UK.
