Attention! Many fees are going up again, and sellers can’t hold back!

Amazon has increased prices and added new fees surprisingly this year, which puts a lot of pressure on sellers! The latest news is that the US site will increase several fees significantly in January 2025!

U.S. trademark fees will increase in January 2025

On November 18, 2024, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced the establishment and adjustment of trademark fees for fiscal year 2025, which will take effect on January 18, 2025 .

Details of the increase in US trademark official fees:

Additional Fees: Additional fee for each 1,000 characters in excess of 1,000 characters in each category of application

New official fee: $200/1000 characters

Additional fees: In any of the following cases, there will be an additional fee of US$100 per class of trademark

  • No trademark description is provided when applying for a figurative trademark;

  • The specific color is not specified when applying for a color graphic trademark;

  • The non-English trademark application is not accompanied by an accurate translation;

  • Using a specific person's name as a trademark without the person's consent letter attached when applying;

  • The signed statement document submitted during the application does not meet the prescribed requirements;

  • Failure to disclose information on prior registered trademarks with the same name as the applied trademark.

Starting from January 18, 2015, the U.S. trademark official fees will be raised across the board. There are still nearly two months left. Sellers must seize the opportunity and apply as soon as possible. Early planning can save a lot of money!

USPS announces January package rate increase

USPS has recently announced that it will adjust the rates of some package services starting January 19, 2025.

The adjustment involves the shipping fees for Priority Mail Service and Priority Mail Express Service . These adjustments have been approved by USPS senior management and will be officially implemented early next year. This change will also directly affect e-commerce sellers who rely on USPS services.

The rate increases are as follows:

Priority Mail service:

The rate increase is approximately 3.2% .

This service is usually charged based on weight and size. For packages that are lighter in weight but larger in size, the shipping fee may be calculated based on the dimensional weight.

Priority Mail Express service:

Rates also increased by about 3.2%.

Express mail ensures fast delivery, but the corresponding shipping fee is also more expensive.

USPS Ground Advantage Service:

The rate increase is 3.9%.

Parcel Select Service:

The rate increase is as high as 9.2%.

For sellers who enjoy discounted rates through the USPS Connect e-commerce program, USPS's regular rate adjustments are not always synchronized with the program. This means that even though sellers may have enjoyed certain rate discounts, the USPS's rate increase may still cause additional cost pressure on them .

For sellers, cost is an important factor when choosing a courier company, but reliable delivery service and effective package tracking are equally important. Therefore, when facing rate increases, sellers need to weigh service quality and cost to make the best choice.

UPS announced that its express delivery rates will increase by an average of 5.9% starting in December

UPS has officially announced that starting December 23, 2024, rates for its ground, air, and international shipping services will increase by an average of 5.9%.

In addition, UPS's new pricing standards will be officially implemented on January 27, 2025. Specifically, UPS will adjust the calculation method of the Large Package Surcharge (LPS) based on the length, weight or volume of the goods ; at the same time, the pricing standard of UPS Additional Handling Charge (AHC) will be adjusted from the original length plus girth to the cubic volume of the goods.

FedEx's average increase in January was 5.9%

Effective January 6, 2025, FedEx Express package and freight rates for U.S., U.S. Export and U.S. Import services will increase by an average of 5.9% ; rates for air services have also increased.

The rate changes will also increase surcharges for certain packages, particularly those delivered to residential areas, certain postal codes and packages that require additional handling.

Sellers will need to monitor these changes closely, especially those involving heavier packages, residential deliveries, or shipping strategies serving remote areas, to account for rising shipping costs.

In general, the increase in US express delivery rates in 2025 will directly affect sellers' profit margins, and sellers may need to respond to this change by improving efficiency, reducing other costs, or adjusting pricing strategies.

At the same time, sellers can also consider diversifying logistics channels to reduce their dependence on a single express delivery service.
