Amazon is trying to trick buyers into paying tips

Recently, some Amazon sellers have come up with a "new trick" in the checkout process - by setting additional tipping options, they are trying to "earn a little more" from consumers' pockets. This phenomenon has sparked heated discussions in the industry.

How dare sellers ask for tips on the checkout page?

According to feedback from many buyers, some sellers have secretly added an "add tip" function in the product customization options, with amounts ranging from $1.99 to $2.99, making it easy for consumers to click "tip" when checking out.

But here’s the thing: Amazon has no tipping policy at all!

Amazon’s rules clearly state that there is no “tip” option in the checkout process on the platform. Regardless of which site, asking for tips is not a legal operation for sellers.

Although Amazon's supervision of this phenomenon seems to be somewhat "lax" at present, once the platform begins to conduct strict inspections, violators will probably be in trouble.

You may earn more in the short term, but the consequence is that you will hurt yourself!

For sellers who "force" to ask for tips, they may be able to increase their income in the short term, but the subsequent risks are not small:

1️⃣ Violate platform rules and face severe penalties

Amazon has strict regulations on sellers’ behavior. Operating around the rules not only damages the platform ecology, but may also trigger serious consequences: warnings, product removal, account freezing, or even direct cancellation of sales permissions. The gain does not outweigh the loss!

2️⃣ Damage to consumer trust and ruin long-term jobs

Consumers value experience and trust the most when buying things. Who would be willing to repurchase if they were tricked by this kind of hidden charges? Especially during the peak holiday season, this kind of operation will only make buyers' good impression of sellers and platforms plummet.

3️⃣ Destroy market fairness and harm peers

Compliant sellers compete on quality, but you make profits by "tips", which not only disrupts the market order, but also puts other sellers at a disadvantage. In the long run, the platform environment will only deteriorate.

4️⃣ May lead to legal risks with serious consequences

In many countries and regions, charging without informing consumers in advance may be directly illegal. Once consumers complain to regulators, the offending sellers may not only lose money, but also have their accounts marked as "high risk."

Why doesn’t Amazon care?

At present, Amazon may not have paid large-scale attention to these illegal operations, but this does not mean that sellers can take advantage of loopholes with confidence.

Once the platform begins to investigate, the consequences will be severe. Moreover, this behavior has already attracted the attention of buyers and will sooner or later lead to a greater wave of complaints.

Instead of taking risks, it is better to serve with your heart!

Asking for tips in violation of regulations is ultimately a "short-sighted behavior". Sellers should focus more on product quality and service experience. Only by improving customer satisfaction and optimizing operational methods can they gain a firm foothold in the fierce competition and achieve long-term development.
