Social commerce is on the rise in the US! Which platforms do consumers like to follow and buy products on?

It is learned that according to a survey by US market research company RR Donnelly & Sons, 53% of consumers will discover new products and brands and enjoy more online services on social media; 26% of American consumers will buy after seeing or learning about related products on social media.


According to a survey by Donnelley, American consumers like to follow their favorite products and brands on social platforms such as Pinterest (21%), TikTok (20%) and Twitter (19%), and a small number are active on Snapchat and Reddit.


In addition, 41% of American consumers will buy items on Facebook, followed by Instagram (25%) and Pinterest (11%). By age group, baby boomers and Generation X like to buy on Facebook (42%), while Generation Z prefers to buy on YouTube (45%) and Instagram (50%).


Donnelly also pointed out that on social commerce platforms in the United States, clothing and accessories are the largest categories promoted by sellers, followed by consumer electronics, cosmetics, home decoration and consumer goods. Promoting products on social media has become one of the important channels for sellers to increase sales.


It is learned that social commerce in the United States is developing rapidly. It is expected that the number of American users who shop through social platforms will increase by 12.9% to 90.4 million in 2021. Promoting products on social media has become an important advertising and marketing tool. Sellers can use influential "Internet celebrities" or stars on major platforms to advertise their products.
