US Customs seized $30 million worth of counterfeit products before the peak season! The shipping place was China

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) recently stated that before the holiday season, its officials seized a container at the Port of Los Angeles filled with more than $30 million worth of fake brand-name bags and clothing.

CBP officials said in a statement released on December 2 that bags, shirts and pants with counterfeit logos such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton were found at the Port of Los Angeles on November 9. The statement noted that the 13,586 items in the container were shipped from China with a total estimated suggested retail value of $30,437,775.

CBP also pointed out in the statement that e-commerce platforms have provided a safe haven for criminals who are now able to sell legally through well-known e-commerce platforms. The sale of counterfeit goods has multiplied the illegal profits of smugglers and traffickers, who reinvest the proceeds from these sales into further criminal activities.

The agency said it has deployed significant enforcement resources to prevent counterfeit goods, which are often of poor quality and may be unsafe for consumers, from entering the U.S. supply chain.

Counterfeit products cost the global economy more than $500 billion each year, CBP said in a statement in late November.

"This year, millions of consumers are buying their holiday gifts and other essentials online due to the global pandemic, supply chain crises and shifting shopping habits."

In a December release, CNR said its officers seized 26,503 shipments containing counterfeit goods in fiscal year 2020, with an estimated value of $1.3 billion (converted to the value of authentic goods).

CBP advises consumers to buy directly from trademark holders or authorized retailers and to read reviews and inspect products carefully if shopping online.
