Winter storm hits eastern United States! Blizzard, power outages, massive flight cancellations!

It is learned that on January 17, a fierce winter storm swept from Florida to Maine, and tornadoes, freezing rain, hail and heavy snow caught millions of people in the eastern United States off guard.

According to data from the National Weather Service's Eastern Region: Ohio received the most snow. Ashtabula on Lake Erie received more than 2 feet of snow, and Grand Island, New York, north of Buffalo, received 22 inches of snow. Further south, Banner Elk, North Carolina, received 20 inches of snow. There were 631 car accidents in North Carolina on the 16th, and nearly 1,000 traffic accidents across Virginia.

After the heavy snow, there were widespread power outages, a large number of road closures and a large number of flight cancellations. On the evening of the 17th local time in the United States, nearly 50,000 households in six states from Georgia to West Virginia lost power. According to PowerOutage.US, 217,089 households in 11 states lost power.

According to FlightAware.com, due to the cold weather, nearly 5,700 flights were delayed in the United States on January 16, local time, and more than 4,700 flights were canceled.

CNN meteorologist Haley Brink predicts strong winds will follow the storm and linger over the Northeast until January 18.
