Walmart and revolutionary AI supply chain technology company Symbotic LLC have announced an expanded commercial agreement to deploy Symbotic’s robotics and software automation platform in all 42 regional distribution centers in the U.S. market next year. This is an expansion of Walmart’s previous commitment to deploy Symbotic Systems in 25 regional distribution centers, which is expected to be deployed within the next 8 years. The high-density robotics platform, supported by end-to-end software, plays a strategic role in supporting the retailer’s goal of modernizing its extensive supply chain network and has enabled Walmart to transform its regional distribution centers to respond to store orders more quickly and improve inventory accuracy, thereby facilitating increased order volumes and improving grocery delivery capabilities. The technology is able to build pallet-loaded department-level inventory, which helps Walmart get products to the shelves of its more than 4,700 stores more quickly. “This expanded partnership with Walmart demonstrates how our technology can truly reinvent the traditional warehouse and grocery delivery chain across the entire supply chain,” said Rick Cohen, Symbotic’s president and chief product officer. “As a technology platform with deep roots in warehousing and delivery, our system solves the biggest challenges in today’s complex supply chains, such as inventory agility, transportation costs and labor availability. Warehouse modernization enables consumers to get the products they need, faster.” “Supply chain challenges have led to a surge in demand for delivery accuracy and speed,” said David Guggina, vice president of innovation and automation at Walmart U.S. “Using high-speed robotics and intelligent software to organize and optimize inventory, the Symbotic System helps us get products to customers quickly and seamlessly by revolutionizing the way we receive and distribute product to our stores.” Symbotic is a leader in automation technology that is reshaping the supply chain through its AI-driven end-to-end robotics and software platform. The company has completely transformed the traditional warehouse through an end-to-end system powered by fully automated robots and AI-driven software. Combined with a unique high-density physical structure, the system reduces costs while also improving delivery efficiency, accuracy and agility. It is understood that approximately 230 million customers and members visit Walmart's more than 10,500 stores and e-commerce websites in 24 countries every week. Symbotic's intelligent software can coordinate a group of robots to receive, store and retrieve a nearly unlimited number of SKUs. The use of end-of-arm tools and patented vision systems can transfer boxes, bags and packages at industry-leading speeds.
