Shopify announces partnership with Google and Twitter to fight Amazon

It is learned that Shopify recently announced a new agreement with Google and Twitter to expand its bargaining chips against Amazon. Shopify will also explore the NFT field and provide new tools for its sellers.

Shopify ended 2021 with profits 60% higher than the previous year, though it has warned that growth will slow this year, while its shares are trading 75% lower since the start of the year.

Among the many new features presented by the platform, the cooperation with Google and Twitter stands out, while focusing on both offline and online channels.

On the one hand, Shopif's agreement with Google will allow users to search for physical local businesses registered with Shopify through applications such as Google Maps. Through local inventory synchronization on Google, Shopify sellers can notify users and potential buyers of products available in their respective stores.

On the other hand is Shopify's agreement with Twitter, which will allow Shopify sellers to integrate up to 50 products from their catalog into their Twitter profiles thanks to a new tool called Twitter Shopping.

Shopify is also embracing NFT culture and has launched a feature on its platform for sellers to explore the world of crypto assets. The tool, called Tokengated Commerce, allows NFT holders to access products and experiences by connecting their wallets (like virtual currency wallets in jargon) to Shopify online stores.

The new features have helped Shopify make significant strides in its battle with archrival Amazon over the past year.

Indeed, as Business Insider has reported in the past, Shopify is developing its Shop tool, similar to the one Amazon already has, in which the platform's own sellers will compete against each other when users conduct specific searches.
