Microsoft successfully joined the group chat! Entering the e-commerce field through Bing to compete with Google Shopping!

It is learned that Microsoft's search engine Bing has also joined the big wave of e-commerce. In recent months, Bing has quietly launched a new market and formed alliances with several US online stores to integrate them into this new plan.

Bing plans to create $25 million in GMV

It is reported that Microsoft's goal is to have this new market generate $25 million (about 24 million euros) in GMV in the next fiscal year and compete with Google Shopping in the market. eBay's GMV in 2021 is $87 billion (83 billion euros) and Amazon's GMV is $600 billion (574 billion euros). Microsoft's 25 million target is relatively conservative.

While Bing already has a shopping section called Start Shopping, where people can find products and click on a link to go to an online store to buy them, Buy Direct allows buyers to click on a product directly in Bing and complete the purchase without leaving the search engine.

Bing tries to take on Google Shopping

Sellers can open their own stores on Bing and have Microsoft manage payments, similar to how Google Shopping operates. Bing charges sellers a commission for creating a store, and the exact amount has not yet been announced. Like Google Shopping, the Bing marketplace allows sellers to promote products through a program called Microsoft Advertising Shopping. It is also possible to automatically upload product catalogs and transfer sellers' existing Google Shopping ads, so advertisers can start advertising on Bing at a lower cost than Google, which has more advertisers and users. Bing also launched two advertising tools that Google does not have: audience data from Microsoft-owned LinkedIn and tools to help advertisers manage ad pricing.

Google Shopping ranks products using its algorithm, which is based on tracking terms users have searched for and content they have viewed in the past. Bing claims it helps users discover products they might be interested in better than Google Shopping because Bing allows people to set their shopping preferences to show relevant products.

Since the audience of Bing Market is different from those who use Google search, insiders suggest that sellers can open stores on both Google and Bing. Nevertheless, as a new market, Bing has far fewer buyers than Google and social networks such as Instagram, but this also means that this is an emerging blue ocean market with a lot of business opportunities.

Microsoft's advertising ambitions

Microsoft's advertising ambitions are also expanding as it aims to compete with Google, Facebook and Amazon in areas such as search, e-commerce, streaming, gaming and B2B advertising. Microsoft also recently completed its acquisition of advertising technology platform Xandr and hinted that it may be considering other acquisitions.
