Walmart buys 4,500 electric trucks to deliver online orders! They will be put into use next year!

Walmart will buy at least 4,500 electric delivery trucks from Canoo, which are expected to be put into use next year. After the announcement, Walmart said it would also buy up to 10,000 electric trucks to expand its electric truck delivery fleet. Canoo's stock price surged 37% in early trading. Walmart said it will achieve zero net emissions by 2040.

At the same time, Walmart plans to use electric vans to deliver online orders. David Guggina, senior vice president of innovation and automation at Walmart, said: "By continuing to expand our last-mile delivery fleet in a sustainable way, we can provide more same-day delivery services to customers and Walmart+ members while reducing costs."

Canoo's electric vehicles will be produced at its Oklahoma plant starting in the fourth quarter of 2022, with operations expected to begin next year. However, the specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Walmart expands electric vehicle fleet

The partnership with Canoo marks the third major deal Walmart has signed to purchase electric vehicles. In January, Walmart purchased 5,000 electric delivery vans from GM subsidiary BrightDrop, in addition to 1,100 Ford E-Transit electric delivery vans.

Walmart reported in June that it was expanding transportation pilots with electric, hydrogen and natural gas vehicle manufacturers. On the other hand, the commitment to acquire electric vehicles comes as rising fuel prices hit Walmart's profitability and raised the cost of online delivery.
