JD.com adds new warehouse in California to promote two-day delivery service in the US

It is learned that on March 20, JD.com released a corporate blog saying that it is building its third self-operated warehouse and distribution center in California, USA , and expressed its hope to meet the challenges of the North American supply chain by replicating its logistics model and experience in China.

The new warehouse will reportedly add more than 300 jobs and expand JD.com's warehouse space across the state to 1.3 million square feet. In addition to the three warehouses in California, it also operates two facilities in New Jersey and Georgia.

JD.com said in a blog post that it will continue to invest in building a global logistics infrastructure to better leverage our core capabilities and explore online retail business opportunities in other markets, and expressed its hope to cover the entire United States with two-day delivery services.

In a California warehouse using a container transport unit system, JD.com's goods are unloaded onto an automated conveyor belt, where they are scanned, sorted and stored by robots that automatically open. JD.com said that because the robots can make full use of the height of the warehouse, the system has increased operational efficiency by 300% and increased the number of storage units from 10,000 to 35,000.

“Demand has shifted from major e-commerce platforms to smaller independent operators, which has led to supply chain fragmentation and further increased the complexity and challenges of supply chain management,” Gordon Lu, general manager of JD Logistics USA, said in a blog post.
