Amazon, Walmart, Target still can't hire enough workers as warehouse work in the US continues to grow

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, with the holiday shopping boom, major retailers are doing everything they can to recruit workers, such as offering signing bonuses and exclusive discounts, increasing basic wages, and launching education assistance programs, but they are still facing a labor shortage, and the warehouse work and logistics transportation volume of Amazon, Walmart, and Target are still increasing.

According to industry officials and research from U.S. economic data, there are fewer workers willing to take on the often-arduous work, and the phenomenon of workers leaving the warehouse industry is very common. Andrew Challenger, senior vice president of human resources company Challenger Gray & Christmas, said that widespread product shortages and shipping delays have increased the pressure on workers and delivery personnel in major warehouses across the United States, causing many workers to leave.

Amazon reportedly hopes to hire 125,000 warehouse and logistics workers before the holidays, offering $3,000 bonuses and starting wages of up to $22 per hour, and has also hired workers who smoke marijuana to expand its workforce. However, Amazon often requires workers to work 10 hours, causing employees to overwork and drag down their bodies. Therefore, although Amazon pays higher wages, it still does not have enough labor.

Walmart plans to hire 20,000 employees before the holidays, while Target plans to hire about 10,000, but has not yet reached its target. In the rush to compete for workers, unlike Amazon and Walmart, Target will reduce the number of seasonal hires and provide more working hours to existing employees, allowing them to receive more pay.
