Amazon turns to sellers for help? The platform's trend has changed dramatically

Amazon recently revealed a very funny news. In order to fight against the government’s antitrust sanctions against Amazon, Amazon began to request third-party sellers and platforms to jointly protest the sanctions!

As early as September and October last year, Amazon was identified by the antitrust investigation team as having monopolistic behavior. In June, the House of Representatives took the lead in drafting an antitrust bill and completed the first round of review, directly requiring Amazon and other companies to split off their monopolistic businesses!

When we were analyzing Amazon's response, we mentioned that when Amazon is in the limelight, it is likely to pull sellers or consumers out to "defend" itself so that the government will be afraid to enforce sanctions. Now the news is that Amazon is encouraging sellers to jointly oppose the government's antitrust sanctions with itself. This is very interesting. Amazon's unfair terms are well known to everyone, and sellers already have difficulties. Now the antitrust team wants to solve this problem and split up its own business. Amazon actually wants sellers to help it protest?

Let’s see what Amazon has to say.

To put it simply, Amazon mentioned on this page, "The regulatory plan that the US government is planning will seriously affect the Amazon market, and in turn affect sellers' opportunities to reach customers, which will harm the interests of hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises. Sellers, please help, register, and join our joint protest."

A rough look reveals that it is just a bunch of repetitive talk without any substance. The whole article can be summarized in three short sentences: "I am awesome", "I can't do this without me", "You guys speak for me" . There is a registration form next to it, and filling it out counts as participating in the joint venture.

Although Amazon's countermeasures are relatively simple, Americans, especially the general public, generally like to hear such simple and direct words (which is also the reason why Trump came to power). So is the situation really as serious as Amazon said? Let's take a look.

Amazon and sellers jointly protest, but are they targeting the wrong target?

Amazon said that if the regulation is implemented, many sellers will have to close down. The US government intends to split and regulate, but it is not going to directly shut down the Amazon website. How can it directly cut off the sellers' financial resources?

However, some sellers are worried that this regulation will have a devastating impact on the self-operated business. The self-operated products can still attract many consumers. If they are missing, will the traffic of the entire platform plummet? In fact, the above reason still applies to this issue. The US government only split the self-operated business, not shut it down . These self-operated products are still sold normally without any omissions. The difference from before is that self-operated products will be subject to platform rules like our third-party sellers, and can no longer receive any dividends from the platform, and can no longer use the seller's sales data to launch new products to compete with sellers, etc., which are all benefits.

In addition to splitting up self-operated businesses, another article of the Antitrust Act is also greatly beneficial to sellers. Let me review the details of the Antitrust Act previously announced by the US House of Representatives.

In addition to the third article requiring the splitting of monopoly businesses, the first article prohibits the platform's discriminatory selection behavior, including selecting and displaying according to the platform's own inclinations and preferences. For example, the display of Amazon products must be strictly based on fair algorithms and must not reflect Amazon's own inclinations.

This also means that Amazon must set a standard display algorithm and accept supervision from regulatory agencies. Products will no longer be inexplicably demoted or deliberately suppressed by Amazon. Even the real algorithm may be figured out.

In short, if the antitrust sanctions against Amazon are implemented, even if there are some fluctuations in the short term, it will be greatly beneficial to sellers in the long run . Amazon is really thinking too much to mobilize sellers to stand up for itself. Didn’t you see that all of us sellers are full of resentment because of the closure of stores and product removals starting in May! Now that there is regulation that can end Amazon’s predicament of overbearing terms and one-sidedness, why shouldn’t we sellers do it? So for the Amazon alliance’s petition, I suggest that everyone just eat melons and be done with it!

Amazon may organize other activities in the future to encourage sellers and consumers to support it.
