2023 Fortune 500 announced! Amazon ranks second for four consecutive years!


It is learned that on June 5, Fortune magazine released the latest ranking of the top 500 American companies in 2023. This is the 69th consecutive year that Fortune has released the list. This year's entry threshold is US$7.2 billion, an increase of 13% over the previous year.

Overall, the total revenue of the listed companies was US$18.1 trillion, an increase of 13% over the previous year, equivalent to two-thirds of the US GDP in 2022; the total profit of the listed companies was approximately US$1.56 trillion, a decrease of approximately 15% over the previous year, the second decline in three years.

The top ten companies on the 2023 Fortune 500 list are:

1. Walmart

2. Amazon.com

3. Exxon Mobil

4. Apple

5. UnitedHealth Group

6. CVS Health

7. Berkshire Hathaway

8. Alphabet

9. McKesson

10. Chevron

On this year's list, Walmart topped the list for the eleventh consecutive year with revenue of $5.7 trillion. Amazon ranked second for the fourth consecutive year, with revenue growing by 9%, breaking the $510 billion mark. Exxon Mobil's revenue soared by 45%, jumping to third place, pushing Apple to fourth place. In fifth place is UnitedHealth Group, followed by CVS Health, Berkshire Hathaway, Alphabet, and McKesson. Driven by an annual revenue growth of 52%, Chevron (since 2015) once again entered the top ten list.

In terms of profitability, Apple's profit last year reached 99.803 billion US dollars, an increase of about 5.4% over the previous year, ranking first in the profit list for the eighth consecutive time; Microsoft's profit last year was 72.738 billion US dollars, an increase of about 18.7% over the previous year, rising to the second place in the profit list. Among the top ten most profitable companies, the profit performance of energy giants is eye-catching: Exxon Mobil's profit last year was 55.74 billion US dollars, an increase of 141.9% over the previous year, ranking fourth in the profit list; Chevron's profit last year was 35.465 billion US dollars, an increase of 127% over the previous year, returning to the top ten in the profit list.

The companies on the list this year are located in 224 different cities in 38 states. Texas is the state with the most Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the United States, with a total of 55. California ranks second with a total of 53. New York ranks third with 50 companies. By city, New York City ranks first with 40 companies, followed by Houston with 22, Atlanta with 15, Chicago with 13, and Dallas with 11.
