GoDaddy was founded by Bob Parsons. In the mid- 1990s , Parsons sold his financial software service company Parsons Technology, Inc. to Intuit and decided to retire after earning millions of dollars. In 1997 , he decided to start Jomax Technologies , which later became GoDaddy Group Inc. Development History

In 1999 , a group of employees at Jomax Technologies decided to give the company a more memorable name during a brainstorming session.

In February 2006, it changed its brand name from Go Daddy to GoDaddy .

In April 2005 , GoDaddy became the largest ICANN -accredited registrar on the Internet . In terms of domain name registration volume, GoDaddy also surpassed Network Solutions .

In July 2012 , GoDaddy announced the acquisition of Outright for an undisclosed amount. In August 2013 , GoDaddy announced the acquisition of Locu for $ 70 million .

In September 2013 , GoDaddy purchased the domain name trading platform Afternic from NameMedia .

On October 15, 2013 , GoDaddy acquired domain hosting and web services company Media Temple . Media Temple stated in a customer communication that the company "will continue to operate as an independent and autonomous entity."

In July 2014 , GoDaddy acquired Canary, a small business based in Cambridge, UK that provides smart scheduling services .

On August 20 , 2014 , GoDaddy acquired Mad Mimi, an email marketing service provider headquartered in Brooklyn, USA .

In April 2015 , GoDaddy acquired Elto , " a San Francisco-based startup that provides a marketplace platform that connects business owners and non-technical professionals to web developers to help them create web pages and improve their online presence. "

In April and November 2015 , GoDaddy purchased a large number of domain names from Marchex and Worldwide Media respectively.

On February 29, 2016 , GoDaddy 's domain name suffixes available for customers to register increased to 421. .cn is China's country code domain, and also represents the rapidly growing Internet user base.

In December 2016 , GoDaddy , a US domain name management company , announced that it would acquire its European counterpart Host Europe Group (hereinafter referred to as " HEG ") for 1.69 billion euros (about 1.82 billion US dollars) to expand its business beyond the initial website setup. The acquisition price also includes HEG -related debts.
