Canada Valentine's Day Shopping Survey 2025: Consumer Spending Increases

It is learned that recently, the Retail Council of Canada released the 2025 Valentine's Day Shopping Survey Report, which shows the shopping trends and spending habits of Canadian consumers during Valentine's Day.

The survey, conducted in January 2025 and involving nearly 9,500 Canadian adults, found that while slightly fewer Canadians plan to celebrate Valentine's Day, more consumers are willing to spend the same or more than last year. The report also noted that the proportion of people shopping specifically for Valentine's Day has also increased, from 51% last year to 56%.

The most popular consumption categories include restaurants, food, alcohol, candy, flowers and decorations, and entertainment activities and experiences. Among them, consumers who buy these products account for 37% of Canadian shoppers, down from 48% in 2023. In terms of the purchase trend of sustainable products, 28% of shoppers expressed a preference for buying sustainable products, but 42% of consumers did not think it was important to "buy environmentally friendly packaging or sustainable products."

Despite the growing popularity of online shopping, most Canadian consumers still prefer to shop offline during Valentine's Day, with 54% of shoppers preferring to shop at local or independent stores. In addition, men are more likely to participate in Valentine's Day shopping than women, and most Canadians get shopping inspiration from the products they see in-store.
