Recently, many sellers received notifications from Amazon managers: Amazon Coupon coupons will undergo a major change.
01 Coupon Update Submission Rules

According to reports from multiple sellers, Amazon's investment managers have reminded sellers that after January 16, 2025, Deals will capture the discounted price of Coupons, which means that Deals cannot be higher than the discounted price of T30 Coupons. The new rules will be implemented on all sites.

Specifically, after the policy changes, the discounted price of coupons in the 30 days before January 16, 2025 will affect the lowest price, and the flash sale price will be affected, especially for those sellers who have set up large coupons, the impact will be greater.

This adjustment has doubled the pressure on many sellers. In the past, the discounted price of coupons was essentially a discount promotion, not a direct price reduction, and would not change the shopping cart price, so it would not affect the flash sale price. However, if the new regulations are implemented, sellers will have to be cautious about using coupons, especially large coupons. Flash sales (LD) and 7-day sales (7DD) both require that the discounted price must not be higher than 15% of the lowest transaction price in the past 30 days (inclusive).

This means that the coupon discount price will become the key factor in determining this lowest price .

If the discount of the coupon is set too large, it may directly cause the price of the flash sale to be "locked" at a low level, which will pose a great threat to the profit margin of the product in the future.

Some sellers said that the rule of grabbing coupon discounted prices in flash sales has been piloted in some small categories earlier, and it is only a matter of time before it is fully implemented.

"The purpose of setting up coupons was to attract customers, but this happened. We might as well just lower the price in the future."

As of now, Amazon has not made any official response or explanation on this matter. As to whether the new rules will be fully implemented on all sites, we still need to wait for the official information to be released later.

02 Prime discounts will be integrated into the price discount tool

In addition to coupons, Amazon also plans to introduce a new policy that will affect the setting of exclusive discounts for Prime members.
Starting January 7, 2025, the Prime member-exclusive discount feature will be integrated into the price discount tool , and all discount settings will be managed through this unified tool.
The new discount management tool provides sellers with a more unified and centralized management method, but at the same time, it also comes with stricter rules and requirements:

The coverage of the [Prime Exclusive Discounts] originally designed for Prime members has been expanded after the adjustment - under the [Price Discount] function, sellers can now choose to offer discounts to all buyers or only to Prime members .

In addition, it is worth noting that sellers can only successfully create discounts when the store’s Feedback rating reaches at least 3.5 stars .

  • Fee Description:

- Non-event period: free, no additional fees required.

- During promotional events (Prime Day, Black Friday, etc.): USD 50 per visit (US site).

  • Discount duration: Duration ranges from 1 to 30 days. You can freely set the discount effective and end time.

  • Permission setting: The integrated tool provides default permissions for primary users, and permissions for secondary users need to be set manually.

  • Default permissions: Primary users have permissions to create and manage discounts by default.

  • Permission Assignment: Primary users can enable "view only" or "view and edit" permissions for secondary users through "global user permissions" settings, ensuring that the team can manage promotions efficiently.


Whether it is the restrictions on the minimum price imposed by Coupons or the integration changes of Prime's exclusive discount tools, both have increased the challenges of Amazon sellers' operations to a certain extent.
Finally, I would like to remind all sellers of the following important points mentioned in the email:

December 31, 2024: The Prime members-only discount tool will close the channel for creating new discounts.

January 1, 2025: Sellers will no longer be able to add discounts through the original tool.

January 7, 2025: The Prime members-only discount tool will be completely removed from the shelves, and all related functions will be transferred to the price discount tool.

Since Amazon has frequently changed its coupon policies over the past year, sellers should pay more attention to the latest official news so that they can adjust their operating plans in a timely manner.
