Don’t rush to change the title! Amazon’s policy has been updated again!

Today is the 22nd, and a title policy change that Amazon sellers have been paying attention to for a long time will be officially implemented today. The changes involve character limits for titles, wording standards , and the requirement that titles and tags must be completely consistent .

Review this update

When Amazon announced this policy change last month, it caused an uproar. Not only was the character limit limited to 50, but the title and product label were also required to be consistent. These outrageous changes caused Amazon to be criticized by sellers.

Many sellers should still remember this incident. The incident was so popular that Amazon even temporarily banned sellers from speaking on the official forum.

About a week later, Amazon said that titles and product labels do not need to be exactly the same, and the background's 50-character limit was changed to 200 (except for individual categories), but the wording standards still exist.

So recently sellers are preparing to modify their titles, and we are also discussing the character limit for titles in our categories. Because the penalties after the new policy is implemented are quite severe, products that violate the rules will be banned from display

However, just as the new policy was about to be implemented, Amazon’s backend policy changed again! This change directly made the sellers’ recent efforts to change the title go to waste.

Latest Title Policy Changes

Let’s first take a look at the screenshots of the background related policies before the changes.

Generally, the character limit for products is 200, but some specific categories have longer character limits. For details, please refer to the inventory style guide in the background.

The latest backend has been updated to look like this. Note the circled part.

The character limit in the style guide is just a suggestion. In fact, as long as the product title does not exceed 200 characters, it will not be blocked.

Many categories of style guides give character limits ranging from 80 to 150. Amazon has previously asked everyone to refer to the character limits in the style guide to modify the title, but now it has changed its words and said that the character limits in the guide are only for reference and not mandatory.

Amazon has already given in to sellers on this incident. This time it is probably because the character restriction is too broad. If it is strictly enforced, it will have a large impact on sellers' operations, so Amazon secretly changed this policy in the background.

Although some of the work of changing the title is wasted, it is still good news that the character limit for the title has been removed (it still has to follow the general limit of 200). The 80-character limit is really uncomfortable. Many sellers’ brand name plus product phrases are already full.

The title restrictions are gone, what else will be implemented on the 22nd?

Back to the beginning of the article, there are three changes implemented on the 22nd. The two things, title character limit and label consistency, have been changed by Amazon. Now there is only one thing that sellers need to pay attention to - standard wording.

Many sellers are also concerned about whether their brand names are all capitalized, such as capital letters, 2, and two, and whether they will be banned from display. Amazon has also updated the wording standard, and this time it has given a very clear standard.

Please note that even after the new policy is implemented on the 22nd, only the following four situations will be prohibited from display.

1. The product title contains more than 200 characters including spaces.

2. Include promotional terms, such as "free delivery", "quality assurance", etc.

3. Contains decorative characters, such as ~ ! * $ ? _ ~ { } # < > | * ; ^

4. There are no product identification words in the title, such as "hiking boots" or "umbrella", etc. Note that only when there are no main words will the title be blocked.

In other words, the issues that everyone was worried about before, such as all caps, Roman numerals, and English words, will not result in the product being banned from display.

Amazon also stubbornly left these contents in the updated page, just as a suggestion to remind sellers that violating the following contents will not lead to any consequences.

It is not necessary for the title and product label to be consistent.

The character limit for product titles is uniformly 200.

As long as the title content does not violate the four forbidden areas, there is no problem.

The above three points are all the contents after the title policy is updated. In summary, most sellers do not need to make any changes to this new policy.

However, you can still take a look at the title suggestions Amazon gives you. It is not a bad thing to improve your title content according to the official suggestions to increase conversion and clicks. I have also prepared a title keyword optimization skills package for you.
