The U.S. Treasury Department announced on the 19th, Eastern Time, that it would impose sanctions on a logistics company called Shanghai Saint Logistics Limited located in Shanghai, China!

The reason? The United States said that the company served as the general sales agent of Iran's Mahan Air, providing cargo booking services for the airline on the China-Iran route. Previously, the US government unilaterally determined that Iran's Mahan Air supported the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which was designated as a "terrorist organization" by the US government.

The U.S. Treasury Department also said in a statement that the sanctions will freeze all assets of the Chinese logistics company in the United States and prohibit U.S. citizens from working with the company.

U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo accused China of being "one of the few countries that welcomes Mahan Air" and that "this cooperation has consequences." He also threatened that "this action is yet another reminder that companies that are still providing services to Mahan Air, whether in China or anywhere else, are at risk of possible sanctions from the United States."
