Amazon workers strike again on Prime Day

Amazon workers strike again on Prime Day

Written in front

On October 14, the E-Commerce News learned that according to a report by the US Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) on the 13th, Amazon employees in Germany chose to strike during Amazon's global promotion event "Prime Day".

Warehouse workers in the German cities of Leipzig, Bad Hersfeld, Rheinberg, Werne, Graben and Koblenz will take part in the strike, which is being organized by the German trade union ver.di.

The strike will last for two days (13th and 14th), and the Ver.di union and its members believe that Amazon workers deserve better wages, working conditions and more respect. Although the exact number of protesters is unknown, Andre Scheer, secretary of the Ver.di union, said that thousands of workers are expected to participate.

The strike is part of a long-running battle between the union and Amazon Germany over better pay and working conditions. The union also pointed out that the pandemic bonus that Amazon Germany planned to pay to workers in March was canceled again in May.

Regarding the strike, an Amazon spokesperson said that customers will still receive their orders on time and the strike will not affect Amazon's delivery commitments.

The 13th and 14th of this month are Amazon's "Prime Day", which marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season and is usually Amazon's busiest day of the year. During last year's two-day "Prime Day", Amazon's total sales reached US$7.2 billion, or about RMB 48.5 billion.

Currently, Amazon has nine logistics centers in Germany, employing approximately 12,000 people. Germany is Amazon’s second largest market after the United States.

Amazon deletes fake reviews, targeting Chinese sellers

In addition to the strike, Amazon also deleted a large number of reviews before Prime Day. According to an investigation by the Financial Times, some of the five-star reviews on Amazon's website may have come from certain reviewers who profited from writing good reviews. Amazon deleted 20,000 product reviews from its website .

In a study conducted by USC and UCLA, more than 20 Facebook groups related to fake reviews were found, with an average of 16,000 members . These members sent up to 560 fake reviews per day. Members were paid about $6 for each positive review they wrote.

On the UK Amazon website, there is an even more "radical" way of fake orders . In order to get good reviews marked with "Verified Purchase", some sellers do not hesitate to collect residents' information and create accounts on Amazon in their place.

The products are then shipped directly to these unsuspecting residents, creating the illusion that they have actually purchased the products . The sellers then use previously established accounts to leave 5-star reviews for the products, thereby misleading consumers.

The Financial Times reported that nine of the top 10 reviewers on Amazon in the UK had suspicious behavior, including Justin Fryer, who ranked first.

Justin Fryer wrote five-star reviews for £15,000 worth of products in August alone, covering everything from smartphones to fitness equipment to electric scooters, at an average rate of one positive review every four hours .

Most of these 5-star reviews were for products from unknown Chinese companies , which Fryer then resold on eBay after reviewing them.

In response, Amazon said they take this type of fraud very seriously. They analyze more than 10 million reviews every week and use AI technology and closely observe user reports to detect bad behavior in order to prevent the publication of false reviews .

Amazon said, "We have clear policies for reviewers and sellers prohibiting abuse of Amazon's community features, and we suspend, ban accounts and take legal action against those who violate these rules ."

In addition to Prime Day, there are also Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Halloween, Christmas ... Under the attraction of the high-density shopping festivals in the fourth quarter , the traffic of major platforms will also explode. How to attract traffic to your own listing is the key!
