It is reported that a severe snowstorm swept across the northeastern United States on February 1. New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and other places declared a state of emergency, and land and air transportation were facing suspension.

As of late on the 1st, the snow depth in parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania reached 68 centimeters, and the snow depth in parts of New York City was 43 centimeters. The meteorological department predicted that the snow depth in New York City is expected to exceed 60 centimeters, almost catching up with the scale of the snowstorm in early 2016.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio issued an emergency order on the evening of January 31, calling the snowstorm "lethal." He called on New Yorkers to stay at home as much as possible, keep roads open for emergency vehicles and snowplows to work, and ensure everyone's safety. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order on February 1, declaring that New York City and about 10 nearby counties would enter a 31-day disaster emergency state from that day.

According to an announcement from Maher Terminal, the largest container terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey, the terminal and empty warehouses at the terminal will stop operating on February 3 due to the severe winter storm. In addition, normal operations at the gate will be resumed at 6 a.m. on Thursday, February 4.
As a reminder, Maher Terminal will be open on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7 to receive imported dry cargo and empty containers.

On Monday, 40 container ships were anchored in San Pedro Bay, a record high. Congestion is expected to last at least until mid-to-late February.

Massive port congestion at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach is forcing carriers to take extreme measures.
